I have to agree. This evolution doesn't allow them to show how good they are. There's not a lot of variety in her music for PTX to give us the evolution we expect from them. We know they are the masters of evolutions. I hope they do an actual video for this one. Maybe that will change my mind.
Mitch said there was one coming but didn't say when. I listened once and did not like it. That's the first time I've ever said that about anything they've done. They should ha e stuck to not doing her music instead of just doing it because Shea ugly popular right now. Her music is way too boring for them.
I have actually liked some of Swift’s songs so I recently watched her Eras concert, but it did not convert me into her fan. Possibly my least favourite of their Evolutions even though I did not know almost any of the songs in the Ariana Grande one. It felt a but monotonous.
They did an amazing job, and the arrangement is excellent, but I agree this isn't as exciting as some of their other evolutions. I enjoyed the performance a lot, and I look forward to them releasing a video with better audio, but this audio was actually not bad, so we'll see. I think in an official video we might be able to appreciate more of the cool things they are each doing individually, and some of the nuances of the arrangement will become more apparent.
I think they didn't want to before because of her music not because they couldnt. I think them saying it never works was an excuse. Now I see them doing it because she's hugely popular right now. They should have stick with their original instincts.
I think there is a LOT we are missing because of the venue and recording. I’m giving the benefit of the doubt until I hear an original video/recording. It’s so hard, especially when it’s complicated with a TON of songs, to hear more than the lead vocal during this.
I so agree with you. I know a few TS songs. I haven’t followed her much over the years but I admire her. She has worked hard to build a career. I’ve watched some of her show from Wembley in London. Her show is impressive in the staging, choreography and performance. IMO she is a personal event storyteller who connects with her audience through her music. It seems to be working for her. On Rick Beato’s channel he posted about the NYT’s article where they ask if she’s bigger than the Beatles. Over 20,000 comments later people are still arguing about it. 😂 I’m glad PTX covered her. They did the best they could with the material because they are masters of the medley but TS songs are difficult to cover. I hope they make a video with better sound quality because anything TS will be viewed a lot right now. They’ve been away for six months living their lives with marriages, babies and books so I’m glad to see them on tour again. They did this a few nights later in Reno. Sound quality was better and you could tell they were getting more comfortable doing it.
I don't believe her songs are difficult at all. They're all accompmished singers and could sing taylor under the table. I think her music doesn't have enough variety for them to make a medley to the standards which they usually do. All the other artists have been icons with iconic worthy music. Taylor is popular but she's no icon.
That's the whole thing about TS. I think that even admits that she isn't a great singer. But she's a great role model, especially for young girls. She admits that she isn't a great dancer, but she's having more fun on the dancer floor because she doesn't care that she isn't great. She's there to help fun. And she refuses to be beaten down by bullies. She's smart and treats everyone well. I mean, come on, she's friends with the future king of England. She convinced Prince William to get up and sing with her and Bon Jovi at a charity event. She's a genuinely nice person who doesn't put up with crap. I think that as soon as she's aware of this, she'll reach out to PTX. Why not? She wants to collaborate with Eminem.
I saw them do his in concert. I'm not a Taylor Swift fan either, but my daughter is and I asked her how they did with the evolution and she said they did a great job with it. (Btw, I totally agree with your take on this)
I agree they struggled with this one. I read another comment from someone saying Taylor is hot right now so that's why they tried. Now they can say they did it and move on.
I’m relieved to read other comments that said that they weren’t very excited about this evolution. When I first heard it, I was thinking that it wasn’t clicking with me, and that NEVER happens with PTX. I think this is the first thing I’ve heard of theirs that didn’t blow my mind and make me want to listen to it constantly. I’m just commenting now and not even taking the time to listen to it again 🥴. I’ll give it another chance if an official video comes out.
I like a fair amount of Taylor Swift songs, in the moment, in the audience this was a ton of fun. I was at a different show, but I really enjoyed it. I also think it sounds too busy. I do think maybe it’s because she doesn’t have a ton of bass or something. I actually think she has great vocals and lyrics, but something is missing.
I started listening to TS in the last year. I'm not a Swiftie but I do really like her music. It's a fallacy to think it is all about her ex's. She does write from personal experience, but is that truly only limited to her? Her shows are huge productions, so her live performances are truly worth watching. She also directs/produces many of her videos. It's amazing to see how many reactors (male, isn't that interesting?) start off saying they don't like her and are nearly instantly converted. But you are correct, she's not the greatest singer, but it's her lyricism and message that draws people in. They relate to the words and suddenly not being the best singer doesn't matter. She's singing the human experience.
I am not a fan of Taylor either and I'm surprised by how many songs I know in this medley. lol Maybe because this was from a fan cam, the quality of their voices can't be heard that much. I've watched this maybe three times? The more that I watch, the more that I like it. I'm hoping they make an actual video of this medley. I will love it for sure because why not? It's Pentatonix we're talking about. They are amazing. By the way, in case you don't know, this is new, as in new new. And Superfruit did a medley of Taylor's 1989 which I think, you haven't checked yet? That one I love a lot.
Yes...TS is not a good singer and for awesome singers to try to emulate a bad singer...doesn't work. Yes...she is an amazing song writer. Extremely awesome. She deserves every award she's received for her song writing. There are tons of huge singing stars who sing badly. Because of the song lyrics people overlook the badness. (If that makes sense). For example, Paul Simon was very famous but he could not sing. I never liked him but I liked his songs. Haters don't hate...this is just my opinion just like you have yours. Awesome job as always D!! I have to speak on this. This is the first time they ever performed this particular piece, and honestly I didn't like it at all 😞. Hear me out.... I don't care for Taylor Swift's music, but it's unavoidable. Here's what I have to say about PTX, I saw them at the Reno show which was about 4 days after this performance, seeing it live and not seeing the very first performance made it so much better. This is probably the recording that I saw the day before my concert and I was very underwhelmed, but the night of my show they were absolutely electrifying and amazing like usual and they kind of made me like the medley but I still don't like Taylor Swift.
