Paris-based, Italian artist Tatiana Trouvé creates intricate and refined sculptures, installations, and drawings. Frequently using cast materials, such as concrete, copper, and bronze, she exquisitely transforms everyday objects into elegant architectural sculptural forms. Utilizing pencil, crayon, and collage, her drawings serve as an uncanny complement to her three-dimensional practice. On the eve of the opening of her new exhibition, Desire Lines at Doris C. Freedman Plaza in Central Park (March 3 -August 30, 2015), Public Art Fund (www.publicartfu...) and the Vera List Center for Art and Politics (www.veralistcen..., part of The New School (www.newschool.edu) will host a talk with Trouvé on the development of this new work in the context of her engagement with sculpture and public space. With Desire Lines, she has created a large-scale installation that measures the network of pathways that crisscross Central Park, translating this numerical data into spools of colorful rope installed at the entrance to the park. The carefully-crafted and meticulously-researched installation explores the poetics of time, space, and memory for both the individual visitor and the collective experience of this beloved park.
Tatiana Trouvé (b. 1968, Cosenza, Italy) lives and works in Paris. Recent solo exhibitions include Double Bind at Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2007); 4 Between 2 and 3 at Centre Pompidou, Paris (2008); A Stay Between Enclosure and Space at the Migros Museum of Zurich (2009); Tatiana Trouvé at the South London Gallery (2010); and Il grande ritratto, an extensive exhibition inspired by the title of Dino Buzzati's science fiction novel and conceived in response to the challenging architecture of the Kunsthaus Graz (2010). The travelling exhibition I tempi doppi was presented at Kunstmuseum Bonn, Museion Bolzano-Bozen and Kunsthalle Nürnberg (2014). The Longest Echo - L’écho le plus long at Mamco, Geneva inaugurated her first retrospective exhibition (2014). She has participated in major international group exhibitions including the Biennale di Venezia (2003 and 2007) and the 29th São Paulo Biennale (2010), and has been featured in shows at the Hayward Gallery in London (2010) and the Pinault Foundation Punta della Dogana in Venice (2011).
