KEITH LEVENE (RIP) 11/11/22. One of the GREATEST AVANT GARDE guitarists EVER. SO FAR AHEAD of the curve. Made 21st century music way back in the 1970s. So sad. :( :( :(
Sorry to disagree. Jah Wobble was a rubbish player. Listen to Norman Watt Roy from Ian Dury and The Blockheads. Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick. That is the bass line of the last century.
The very best of Pil. A far more interesting band musically than the 'Sex Pistols'. One of the truly important UK bands. Seminal, original, passionate inspiration. I used to play this all the time very loud driving everyone else crazy. Got me into bass. One of Lydon's very best. Also 'Bad Life', truly punk. No faking it 'Rock N Roll', like the relatively lightweight Pistols, A 'top of the Pop's parody of rebellion. *'Ever felt you've been had'?* With the talented Keith Levine and Jah Wobble, good drumming! Intense mourning his mom. Lydon's best. Mesmerizing darkness and pain!
this is so true,i,m almost60yrs old,14yrs ols when punk opened a new world for me,i met so many diffirent people, black, white, brown, didn,t matter,we were allready kicked out by the consumption society, reggae, rai, techno, dub, drum&bass etc i enjoyd ,but the beginning from this fantastic journey was punk,if i see the young generation nowadays,i think damn what went wrong?Emptyness all around, tik tok, facebook, instagram ,...the most boring fucked up stuff ever created, get a grip and choose something else!choose life!
I can identify with this song I’ve been a fan of PIL since early 80s and I know it’s about his mum dying from cancer, years later the same happened to my mum the last week of her life she was unable to speak and these lyrics kind of resonate with my mum, I miss her ❤
I didn't really care much for the Pistols but loved PIL. Am I alone here? This seems to be what J Lydon excelled at and what he should be best remembered for. This and Careering - pure magic, distilled intoxicating misery. Fantastic.
The late 70's / early 80's were an amazing time for music . This was a time music was mixing styles so much . Listening to this reminds me of ESG and some of the early post Disco .
Seeing in your eyes Words can never say the way Told me in your eyes Final in a fade Never no more hope away Final in a fade Seeing in your eyes Seeing in your eyes Never really know, never realize Silence in your eyes Silence in your eyes Never really know, till it's gone away Never realize The silence in your eyes Seen it in your eyes Seen it in your eyes Never no more hope away Final in a fade Watch her slowly die Saw it in her eyes Choking on a bed Flowers rotting dead Seen it in her eyes Ending in a day Silence was a way Seeing in your eyes Seeing in your eyes Seeing in your eyes I'm seeing through my eyes Words cannot express Words cannot express Words cannot express
Remember when music was THIS exciting? I miss it. RIP Keith. I never met you but you formed my late teenage guitar playing years with this work, along with John McKay, John McGeoch, Bernard Sumner and Paul Reynolds. Oh and anyone who comments that this is "rubbish" or "piffle" or whatever, have a look at "John Hassell - Vernal Equinox" and marvel at what passes for "genius" these days before you snipe at this work.
I see two Golden eras. The first, the better known Hippie era (the Beatles, Doors and Hendrix etc) and then the lesser known equally creative and brilliant 'Post punk era'. Pil, Lene Lovich, Siouxsie, The Cure, the Clash, The Furs, The Talking Heads, Ian Dury, and later Depeche Mode and the Stone Roses. Both creative peaks with mucho talent.
On that lydon proved, that you doesn't need a sad melodie to write a song about losing people (his mother). This Is much more powerfull than the other klichee-songs about this thema
Great songs are inspired by emotional events or experiences that happened the writer either consciously or unconsciously...like this and Yesterday by McCartney and Sing me back home by Haggard
Really quite splendid the way it gains momentum throughout the song. And a top performance by 3 of the worlds top musicians-John,Keith and Hugh Dennis. I never tire of watching this video.
