Day 1 of the Public Land Challenge with The Hunting Public and the Hunting Beast.

The Hunting Beast: thehuntingbeast.com
I met up with Dan, Joe, and the THP crew at camp, and Aaron and I headed out to do a hunt. I'd pre-scouted dozens of potential NW wind bedding locations. After down-selecting to two, we drove past each to look at the potential pressure. The first spot looked decent. It had a few squirrel hunters accessing from the valley, but there was a lot of foliage preventing easy vision of the valley floor from the beds.
The second spot had much less hunter access spots, but still offered area where the deer could observe the valley on 3 sides of the point while gathering daytime thermals. Everything about this access and set-up gave us confidence. We cut the track of a mature buck heading back to that bedding area (fresh since the rain the night before). We didn't catch a glimpse of him, but really feel we did everything right on this hunt. It just doesn't always work out. But if you do that type of set-up with that type of fresh sign over and over, it'll work at some point. Just a matter of odds.
