But do you ever call doctorate holders, doctors? I only ever call physicians, doctors. Even pharmacists have doctorates. You would never call a pharmacist a doctor.

I also taught at University extension as a master's holder. Again the term doctor was never used within the halls of University extension. The term Doctor is usually reserved for physicians. Anyway, her title is professor, not doctor. She teaches at a University, so she would be called professor.

The reason for this, as I'm sure you know, is that zoom is a multifaceted platform that people use for a multitude of purposes. In fact, I don't know any that add their title to their zoom account (do you add Mr., Ms or Mrs?), which is why she clarified i.e. identified her title earlier in the session. As a Dr. myself, I would never insist that my friends and family members refer to me as 'Dr', and the same with many other day-to-day situations. Only in professional and formal settings, such as this one, would I refer to myself by my title.

While it was gracious of Dr Rosario to accept his apology, Tony Collins only apologized to keep his job and address the public furor. He had multiple opportunities to fix the issue during the meeting but stubbornly put his sexism and racism on full display, unable to accept that a woman and a person of color could rise to this level of education and power. She should have apologized for interrupting when he obviously didn’t know. She could have waited her turn to say she’s a dr and please address me as such. He was caught off guard by her rudeness. The reason why phd holders dont ca themselves docotes is because it's slightly embarrassing. They know they dont deserve such a honaraty title, so they wont refer to themselves as a doctor. When signing off a letter or email they'll write phd at the end.

This, it's absolutely absurd. I don't have to go around respecting and acknowledging people's titles and achievements, no matter how they "earned" it. Respect from a person is earned and if you try to force me to call you some special title you feel entitled to you've lost my respect.

But she is not a medical doctor. I have never seen a non medical person insist others call them doctor. My brother has a doctorate and a couple of my friends have them and no one calls them doctor and they don't even mention their doctorate in everyday conversation. This whole argument is bizarre. If this person was white people might accuse her of being precious for insisting that people call her doctor. Having said all that I would call someone by whatever they wanted me to call them as a courtesy but as I said this is totally bizarre.
