Hello, David; Thank you for all you do. Good to hear you all have a nice 'dark site'! I've been used to my locale, where there's too much light pollution, at least for me. Last year my wife & I rode over to the county line to see the comet. I choose the spot based on a clear skies from the north to the west by northwest. To my surprise, the sky (only 15 miles away!) was much darker than my home area. I could see so much more bare-eyed than I could at home, I was really surprised! Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
Glad to see you back. I enjoy my bortle 4 sky! I just wish I had the open views. Our rural old farm land is gaining more people, local woods are close, trees grow, and the pine farms are growing. Plus, more yard lights I have to block out. A night time , moving roof, shed may be in my future since getting a star tracker. If I was local, I'd sure come visit! Ga is a bit of a drive though, lol! Look forward to your new adventures :)
Excellent! We will be doing more of the Meetups. We are trying to do them even when it is cold sometimes as the sky gets darker sooner so it is easier for people to travel home at a decent time. Plus we have a patio heater to warm people up, and have hot chocolate/hot apple cider and things too.
Congratulations on your new home and land. I look forward to watching your upcoming content. A break always does you good so take one wherever you need one 👍🪐
Totally understandable about the absence. I don't understand how some of these YT creators publish a new video every few days or weeks - it burns a lot of time and energy. Congrats on the property purchases, and your future plans for it - sounds very exciting! Wishing you the best on all this. Hopefully you can get some great views of Comet Leonard in the next few weeks. Unfortunately, here in the Seattle area, weather as normal for this time of year, and plenty of clouds and rain in the forecast :( Also, strange name for the vLog - "Published English Subtitles" :)
Thank you - I don't know how some of them do it either! Just doing one a week at times could be exhausting from doing the research, planning, video execution and editing. And that was *after* I had streamlined the process too. I named the subtitles because RU-vid saved it more than once and I wanted to be sure the one I had edited was the one that published. Didn't realize anyone would see that!
I hope you can make videos regularly again. I understand being busy and getting burned out. I just want to say that I found your channel when I was first buying a telescope and you answered a few questions on Facebook and that was very helpful. Also you do a very good job on your videos of helping locate interesting objects.
Thank you Ernie! I was looking south last night with binoculars and saw the brightest star Aldhanab in Grus! I know we are very fortunate to have it - that's why when the property came up for sale south of the little one we purchased last years, we jumped on it. And we hope to share that view with others now.
Good to have you back David! The vision you have for that property sounds sooo awesome and I'm excited to see your progress with it and with your channel. Clear skies:)
Great things are happening for you !,, bortle 3 here in v.t, I've had miyiach 20x100mm with the high end glass, an 8 inch celestron, mead 7 inch mak, all gone now, my Canon 18x50 binoculars are one of the best instruments !, too see the galaxy's through my Canon 18x50 binoculars give me some of the best views I've had, hopefully one day you get a pair:),, only problem is the cold ! Hard not to get the eyepiece's from fogging up lol, merry Christmas and happy New Year!!
Thank you - I am not far from a Bortle 3 - it is south of me, but there is literally nothing there but agricultural land. Those Canon 18x50's are awesome! And yes, I know what you mean about fogging up - here in the Midwest, we get a LOT of dew and frost. Clear and dark skies!
Congratulations on the new property. There's nothing like having your own land. Thanks for keeping it from development and returning it to prairie. The outreach plans sound great.
Great to see things from you again after a well deserved break! That property looks wonderful and your plans even more so! Well wishes to you and yours from Sweden!
Definitely motivation is the key, I was eagerly waiting for your valuable video. Thanks for update. I am not looking to the sky since couple of months, but now I have got motivation dose. And finally all the best for your astrophotography site preparation, certainly it will help many people to come and experience exciting views under your guidance. Thanks again.
Great Video Dave!! Congrats On your New House!! Wow, You have some Great Dark Skies. Im bortle 7/8 which as you know is Terrible! But I have Been Able To Observe Quite a Few Clusters and Orion nebula and few Double stars!! Im also New To Astrophotography, started out last Year Only! You have Got some Great Images there!
What?? You're a real person and have a life beyond RU-vid?? Good for you!! Never apologize for having a life, your friends understand, and the rest will get over it. Your property looks awesome, I'm very happy for you! Clear skies!!!
Thank you. My apology was a result of a couple subscribers not-so-subtly saying in emails to me "Hey, you bought your house and moved in, don't you think you should start making videos for us again?" It did weigh a little bit on me and I suppose after a time I felt somewhat guilty as a result. I very much appreciate your comment. Thank you again for the kind words.
Great to see you pop up today! Your videos really helped me learn to star hop when I got my first dob. We just moved to a big property with similar skies although way more treeline. It's terrific to see the milky way so clearly right out the back door. I wish you the best with the outreach and meetup!
We are not quite at that point yet - just barely have some space for things like meteor observing and binoculars stargazing for a small group of people. Hopefully we can get some things reconfigured soon.
