This mash up was created by Little Roger and the Goosebumps. I asked Roger Clark if he would be cool with me covering this and he said that was ok with him. He's a swell fella. I love that you actually finger all the guitar solos in the songs you perform correctly. It's pretty obvious you play. You're an amazing performer, Mike. I have honestly never seen someone able to convey more emotion, and interpret lyrics so vividly as you do. Respect, and thanks. Your ability to handle comic stuff like this with a straight face, and yet deliver other songs with such emotion as to bring forth tears really shows the depth of your talents.

I haven't heard this since the mid-1980s, when I heard a guitar playing lounge/bar singer do it in Salt Lake City. I never forgot hearing it, but thought that he had mashed it together. I've learned that by then, Little Roger and the Goosebumps had pulled their records, due to a lawsuit by Led Zepplin. But it was re-released in 2000. Robert Plant has called it "his favorite cover of Stairway to Heaven". Thanks Puddles, glad that you found it and gave it new life.

Ah, Gilligan's. Growing up watching that show, I swear I happened to incorporate all the characters as part of my personality! At work I'm the Professor with clients...but the Captain comes out for co-workers. I consider myself Maryanne with my kids, but I'm sure they'd say I'm all Gilligan. I try to be Mrs. Howell with my husband but often turn into Mr. Howell. Ginger only shows up for the few minutes I'm getting dressed for the day 😉. As for Zeppelin-type rocking out, that I save for when I'm at one of your pity parties, P! 🤘🎶 Thanks for the memories - from remaking this smashup...it's perfect, and also from your shows back when we could all meet up together! ❤️❤️❤️🔜🤗🤞

Actually...no. The original version of this song was created/performed by Little Roger and the Goosebumps in 1978 and Led Zeppelin SUED LR&tG for copyright infringement in a landmark case. LR&tG lost and the judge ruled that ALL copies of the song be recalled and destroyed. Which obviously didn't happen. Meanwhile, Weird Al parodied everyone with next to no push-back from the original musicians. The point is the members of LZ had no appreciation or sense of humor for this amazing mash-up. I think it's because it was TOO good. :)

Back in the 90's a band I was in played at a AA party. Yes you can party without booze. Anyway a couple guys came up during break and asked if they could play a tune. Since people around them seemed to know them we said sure. That was the first time I heard the Stairway to Gilligan's mashup. It was awesome, they did a great job!

Back when this came out, about the only place you would hear it was randomly on the radio, because LZ publishers or management filed suit to get the copies out of circulation. I taped it on my cassette player sitting next to my AM radio and made copies for my friends so we could play it whenever we wanted- no MP3s then! 😂

There was dj in Detroit that used to play it a lot on his show and he called it ‘ Stairway to Gillian’s Island ‘ I heard Robert Plant talking about this record in interview and he said they liked it and let them have the rights to produce all they wanted. I just don’t think it sold very much. Novelty record.
