TO PAUI: I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT I LIVED AND STUDIED IN BOTH PLACES ALL THEVWAY TO COLLEGE. DURING MY STAY IN THE MAINLAND WHILEIN SCHOOL, THREE ITALUAN KIDS JUMPED ME AND BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF ME FOR BEING WHAT THEY CALLED ME A "SPIC". LUCKILY I GOT EVEN LATER ON. YOU KNOW, A GOOD OLD "AN EYE FOR AN EYE AND A TOITH FOR A TOOTH" TO TEACH THOSE "GUINEAS". THAT 'S HOW I GOT INTRODUCED TO RACISM, SOMETHING I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED IN MY HOME LAND.
Columbus colonized and enslaved the true people of Borinquen and change its name to Puerto Rico. The people of the islands were forced to mine gold for spain if they could not meet their quota of gold one of their hands would be cut off the people of all the carribean islands suffered the same fate. When they finally managed to gain freedom from Spanish colonial rule the United States invaded and took control of the island. To this day the United States impose heavy taxes on Puerto Rico while offering tax breaks to Americans. All the while the historical artifacts of the people of Borinquen are auctioned off to private collectors and kept under lock and key they say that there are no Boriqua Tainos with false claims of the peoples extinction. This is lie.
Smh this comment has no likes, THIS IS THE TRUTH. Don’t get me wrong i love my island and culture but it was built on lies and oppression. All of the Caribbean was.
#muertealregueton
The only things that makes this film historical is the double typo at the beginning (it should've read hysterical) and that it's old. (1953) I find no value except for american tourists propaganda. I've seen Cuban and Hawai'ian reels and they seem and feel the same, perhaps made by the same company.
Please, why are you showing a video from 74 years ago and not one from this year 2024 so that those who see it want to come to our land. I went to the Hawaiian Islands and the only thing they have an advantage over us is their great variety of beaches. We have many more attractions, English and Spanish are spoken, it is much cheaper and we are less than three hours from Florida and three and a half hours from New York. We use the same currency and our brothers from the USA do not need a passport. Welcome.
The video never mentioned that the United States (US) militarily invaded this paradise in 1898 to make her a US colony. Five years prior to this video, the United Nations (UN) had prohibited colonialism in its Charter. The US, nevertheless, refused to comply! On October 30, 1950, Puerto Rican nationalists staged an insurrection to overthrow the US from Puerto Rico. It was unsuccessful, but it did force the US to try to hide her colony from the international community. 2 years later, the US fooled the UN into believing that Puerto Rico had obtained self-government via, the “Commonwealth of Puerto Rico”. The following year, the US asked the UN to remove Puerto Rico from its list of colonies. Today, Puerto Rico does not appear on the UN’s list of colonies, although the UN holds a hearing every year for Puerto Rico decolonization. The Puerto Rican nationalists attacked in 1954 the US House of Representative to prove to the world that Puerto Rico still remains a US colony. Puerto Rico has been a US colony for the past 124 years. The US has ignored 40 UN resolutions asking her to immediately return Puerto Rico’s sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. Today, more Puerto Ricans live away from our national territory. About half of the Puerto Ricans living in Puerto Rico live in poverty. China, having 4 times the population of the US, has eradicated poverty in her nation. The US, the so-called “leader of the free world”, however, can’t! If the 9 million Puerto Ricans worldwide don’t engage in permanent resistance to force the US to comply with international law, Puerto Rico will remain a US colony forever. The ball is in the Puerto Ricans’ court. What will we do?
It breaks my heart how many Puerto Ricans have no clue of our history. We have been betrayed. It is time for us to take our rose colored glasses off and stop depending on the US to save us and for the politicians in Puerto Rico to stop being greedy and do what is right and noble for its people.
@@seff-g1e Silliness. What next? The western part of Puerto Rico doesn't want to depend on the eastern part of Puerto Rico? In this world we all depend on each other. It will never end. The best independent situation for Puerto Rico is being connected to the USA.
A BEAUTIFUL PUERTO RICO, WITH CLOSE FAMILY TIES, HIGH MORAL VALUES, VERY, VERY LOW CRIME RATE WITH LOTS OF RESPECT IN THE SOCIETY, NO POLITICAL CORRUPTION. JUST A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE, HAVE A FAMILY AND RAISE KIDS, WAY BETTER THAN IN THE CONTINENTAL U.S.
Where they indicated Mayagüez, they showed a section of a shopping street and the City Hall, scarcely 8 seconds. As far as the dancing is concerned, that is definitely NOT bomba, I cannot identify what it is; all I saw was an arrhythmic group of people PRANCING about. As for the "lechonada", people don't go around dancing as the bring out the food. This film was clearly made for tourists to show what a "tropical paradise" is Puerto Rico. That part of the effort as mentioned above was laughable.
Puerto Rico USA.
Really!! Lucky you,,ok go to Google and type Taino natives from the Caribbean,,and you could look up Spanish for beginners too, it's the first language of the island you know!,,entonces animate que para ESO ESTA Google. O! Scary is the world we living now!!
MajesticDonuts003..What a stupid comment.. you are a hater..and I am from PR....This video complements our beautiful island and culture..the only thing scary here is your stupid comment..
"Los Tres Santos Reyes". No sé quien grabó la versión en el "documental" ( tiene fecha del 1953) pero se puede conseguir la versión del Coro Bautista De Caguas en Amazon Music.
