Damn, I'm of Irish descent (amongst a few European origins) who just happens to be Puertorriqueno, having been born in Rio Piedras. Shame I never lived there but this is a heart warmer. Sad fact, not only PR hasn't been rebuilt after the hurricane but gentrification is intensifying and that's a real cultural killer !
Also worth mentioning that first Irish in Indias (it was never América during Spanish period of the hemisphere) was about 1580. They were mostly Irish sailor conscripted by the English. Locally they were called "ganso". In 1797 when Spain and England were yet again having a meltdown, the then Governor of Puerto Rico declared that all the Irish had to leave Puerto Rico, claiming that because they spoke english, they were probably/possibly spies for the enemy. The criollos rallied around the Irish and petitioned the crown to not allow it to happen and won the petition in favor of the Irish.
but I have to give props to the Irish who are screaming for Justice in Palestine. They know what it's like to be invaded and oppressed. And genocided via starvation, thank you "great" Britain
🇵🇷🇨🇮 the surname "OCASIO" comes from the spanish conversion of O'casey and it traces back to irish soldiers that fought alongside the spanish in the spanish-american war. When the war was over, many irish solders simply stayed in the island and procreated with the locals...
I was born en Otoao (Utuado) and lived in NJ almost all my life and nobody is going to convince me the Irish and Italians are not the most racist on the whole east coast .
yeah here in the north east coast wow the racism is overt. the Italians especially. The Irish will just basically ignore you to death. It probably would come out in force if one of theirs started dating one of ours though
@@SandyCheeks63564 The 1968 riots in Trenton began in my high school and it was started by The italians from "The Burg" Those idiots thought they could beat the black students . i saw a lot of people get some major ass whippings .
goes to show that every people have their stupidos. Irish descendants that fall for racism etc are a shame to the history of their their ancestors and is mind boggling to me
@@chungus_khan "they have to … learn the language" That's a bridge too far :) How many are fluent in the RoI? Less than 100,000, ie less than 2%. I learned 2 languages in school-Irish and Latin-and I so wish they had been Spanish and French. Sad waste of my valuable education time. It's a lovely language of course, just like hurling and Irish dance and music-but none of those were shoved down our throats. Joyce, Yeats, Beckett, Shaw, Heaney-and so many more-did just fine in English.
@@silversolver7809 still their language since Scots are Gaels who invades Scotland then invaded back courtesy of the British crown ... and it's a shame to loose language, the foundation of culture !
