The Pacific Ocean on the West Coast has a greater expanse than the Atlantic Ocean on the East Coast. This means that the fetch (the distance over which the wind blows) is greater on the West Coast than on the East Coast. So basically Pacific Ocean waves and currents have a longer time to build up than in the Atlantic Ocean so they're bigger! :)

you are basically living the life of a study abroad student, just minus the studying abroad part. My semester abroad i swore some kids didnt spend a min in our host city that they didnt have to be in class. They were in a new country/city every weekend. (though it is way easier to do that abroad since most places are so tiny and close together and flights are like an hour and dirt cheep) Id say as long as you are showing up to class and not missing more than the allotted number of classes than do what you want because if you ever get a desk job you wont have that freedom anymore, so do what you can now!
