So realistic! I LOVE IT! But I personally wouldn’t make the paw pads so full and big because it will limit your sense of grabbing...you know what I mean

Sorry to bother you, but is there a PDF pattern that you used for this? Did you use a custom pattern or did you find one online? I'm having trouble creating my own, and was wondering if there was an easier way to do this.
You're no trouble! I created my own pattern from scratch by carving the foam and taping it up with duct tape. Unfortunately I don't give out my pattern as I prefer for people to interpret this tutorial in their own unique style :) Keep at it, this isn't something that you master on the first go!
How do you not have more followers there's are beautiful! Edit: instead of mink could I use crushed velvet? Edit: how thick should the upholstery foam be for the top?
These are gorgeous. I'm especially impressed with the fine details and how you drafted the pads. They have so much depth! I checked out your PDF, but I have one question - once you've put the pieces together, is there any "filling" in the toes themselves? (EG, is the foam just for drafting, but not actually in the paw afterward? And is there polyfill or anything in there instead, or are the toes just "empty"?)

Aaaahh thanks for this! I have a book week dress up day coming up in a few days so I decided to get started on my first fursuit! (Partial) The head looks like a thousand trapped souls screaming in pain but oh well Anyway i was having difficulty with the paw shape so thank you so much for making this tutorial!

Of course! I look at every comment ^_^ I used a minky fabric for the pads in this tutorial but you could also use any sort of fleece! Fleece is extra soft as well so it's perfect for paw pads! Otherwise you could totally experiment with vinyl! I haven't used vinyl for these paws but I have a feeling if you did test runs on vinyl pads, the outcome for a pair of paws would look fantastic! These are really interesting paws! I’ve never seen any like these before I like them ^^ I bet it will be hard to pick things up with those on though :’3
It takes practice but I've found if you try hard enough you can pick up larger objects like your phone or water bottle, etc. But you're fighting a losing battle if you're trying to pick up a pen or anything :') Thank you for taking the time to watch my video!!!
Ooooo! I really like the paw pads on this! Im making my own fursuit rn and do you make heads? If so what razor do you use to shave them? I dont have any razors that will work because the one i tried was to weak for the fur ;0
Hiya!! I do make heads!! Check out my facebook page - facebook.com/cometfursuits to see my work. I went to my local pet store and bought a Wahl KM2 speed clippers and they work so much better than my last pair (I was using a pair of $10 human clippers beforehand) because they're designed to work better on fur. It'll take a little while to get used to them but when you do, you'll get a super clean shave. They did cost quite a lot though, keep that in mind. I spent $300 AUD on my pair but it's seriously worth it

I've been trying to find a couple of tutorials to help me along making my own fursuit, (after several years of "I'll get to it") and this was by far the best tutorial I've seen yet. Everything was at the right angle and you explained everything in full detail, even if they were just photos? I'm a very visual learner, so this was super helpful to me!

The foam is solely used to pattern the shape of the fingers and the pads. I stuff the fingers with polyfil before I sew the cuff of the lining shut and finish the paws :)
How did you turn the claws right side out? I've used a material with a similar backing before and it was very difficult to do so without damaging the fabric.
I used the point of a knitting needle to poke them the right way around :) The fabric is difficult to work with, I definitely recommend hand sewing claws if you're using that kind of fabric and use something with a semi-blunt point (like a knitting needle) and push along the seams so you don't damage the claw

Sewing is the preferred method because you can guarantee the quality if you know how well you've stitched each part of the paw. Gluing can get a little messy and tricky and there's always the risk of parts being torn apart or separated altogether. I'd highly suggest sticking to sewing, I know it takes a long time but it's seriously worth it for the end result!
You'll want to use tape to get the pattern shape, as it's not a flat pad. I find duct tape works best although you can use sticky tape too but avoid masking tape as that gets messy and complicated

For the pads I used minky, then the rest is just faux fur and a bit of vinyl stuff for the claws and spandex to line the inside :) If you want to find out more, download the PDF tutorial, all the steps and materials are listed there
Yes of course you can use whatever fabric you please! Fur hides the seams better but if you wanted to use Minky or polar fleece I don't see a problem! This test paw and most of the paw commissions I've done have been almost completely hand sewn so yes, hand sewing will definitely pan out C:

Comet Fursuits I've been looking and asking around but wasn't sure of what for sure to get. Ive started making fursuits, I make costumes and some pet apparel, hand sewing just takes longer than you'd want it to be and some customers I've had get really impatient and poke at me asking why things are taking too long. Well I am one person, hand sewing your product! I can't do it in 20 minutes right there and then!
I 100% agree. That's half the reason why I've made this tutorial and the time lapse I made as well. It can be a learning tool to show commissioners your processes and why your work takes as much time as it does. I definitely recommend making some time lapse videos or even showing commissioners other time lapse videos so that they can gain a little more intel into what exactly goes into each piece of work
