I'm still waiting for an episode all about AR10s. It's the perfect opportunity for Mark to fangirl on 300wsm. Ryan can further profess his love for 308 and jim can make analogies to full-size muscle cars.
Woohoo! And theDukeofTank started from a combination of Paintballing callsigns when we were playing woodsball on the family farm in the late 90s early 00's. Duke and Tank. When the original Call of Duty came out, I needed a gamertag and TheDukeofTank was born.
@@VortexNation I imagine scaled up to that size, their chirps would turn into that low sub-frequent rumble that alligators can do. Fun fact: a squirrel can safely fall to the ground from heights up to 100’. Imagine that distance scaled up. They could literally jump to the ground from the top of a sky scraper. So, a moose sized squirrel would essentially be a dragon.
Some ideas for topics: 277 fury vs 8.6 blk for hunting, pineapple on pizza, why are vikings fans better people, and LVPO vs a traditional scope for short to medium ranged hunting or for a dmr.
Well LPVO for DMR is not an option. For short to medium ranged hunting it’s a great option if you define medium range within 400m. Pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza but if it’s your thing sure. Idk anything about baseball so the Vikings thing is whatever. 8.6BLK is good
#meatballwinner Thank y’all so much for the prize package and marks cameo after winning meatball of the month! It’s the little things that makes vortex an amazing company! Glad the beard is back!!!
Mark, those triple shots (or any other drink really) are for caffeine naps. You pound one, fall asleep for 20-30 minutes (no more than that) and when you wake up you're ready to go! I thought my brother was joking about it until I tried it
I agree with Ryan. You should have spent the last month and this month ironing out your hunting gear. Especially for cold weather and gun season. Go to the range and go through 20 rounds, practice getting settled. There is more to firearms hunting than just shooting three shots to see if you can get within 1 minute of deer.
An interesting topic would be 300 WSM vs 30-06. “The modern gentlemen’s 30-06” vs “America’s cartridge” based on your own comments from previous podcasts
Puffy vest is impractical for actual cold weather. It keeps the core warm but the arms (of which is a massive surface area) are cool. It’s as if you want sweaty armpits and frigid fingers.
Labs are #1 with German Shorthair pointers being a close 2nd. # Meatball, which is better synthetic or natural material(wool) for keeping warm and dry.
The Vizsla is my favorite. Great water dogs, natural pointers, also big enough to be hog strikers! Great family pet as well. I think they take the cake for best hunting dog. Just hard to find
#meatball topics: replaceable blade vs fixed blade knives for game processing, why does Mark always chose the wrong caliber to hunt with, best small game mammal to eat, best small game bird to eat, mid bead or no mid bead on a shotgun, 30 mm vs 34 mm tube on a hunting rifle, what's worse: feral cats vs hogs, which bear is best, which squirrel is superior, best hunt snack.
The best hunting dog I’ve ever had is the English Cocker Spaniel. He would hunt and retrieve everything from ducks to squirrels. Nothing stoped that little dog from hunting until the day he passed at 16 years old.
21:16 Ryan, fun fact, Did you know that of all the Spaniels... The cav king Charles Spaniels, Had been lost to the world, despite being fantastic, And so King Charles commissioned the world to rediscover 'the best breed'... And thus the modern King Charles Cav Spaniel, is in fact rebuilt Like an ancient phenomenal rifle that cannot be found in the wild anymore, that you create a replica for. If we lost the a great Dane, someone somewhere, centuries later, might well attempt to recreate the beloved breed, from the Mastiff and the Greyhound parents who eventually sired it... TL DR : The Cav King Charlie Spanial is the Kit Car, custom rebuild, of hunting dogs.
Oh that’s easy. Pound for pound a cougar is designed for solo hunting and fighting whereas the wolf, regardless of species, is a pack animal reliant on others. 1v1 the feline wins
My 4 Brittany spaniels and my 2 GSP’s are absolutely fantastic hunting dogs! Natural bird pointing and hunting instincts, firecrackers when it comes to getting whitetails out of their beds and on their feet, and they absolutely love water when it comes to retrieving birds out of water! Brittany spaniels and German short haired pointers would be my picks of some of the best hunting dogs!
I don't think I could disagree with Ryan MORE when it comes to vests. As I've gotten older, vests are becoming more and more of a part of my attire, both casually and hunting
Please check out Ruger’s new FSAR rifle in 308 . The first real AR for hunters. Suggest your best affordable scope for it to be used for hunting. Squirrels would be the most dangerous game in the world.
Dogs so much to say there are several terrier breeds that would fit into a grocery bag that are excellent hunters be it for ratting my friends was trained on quail. I get the lab coment but the best dog we had was a Veshla. Both we had were superb amazing upland dogs as well as great for water foal. I'm sure there's something out there I'm just not aware of it but it would be great to have an all 3 in one upland waterfowl and hog dog.
@@VortexNation yeah, I think Mark had this one. Plus there were a couple random “Mute” usages that just seemed for the fun of the mute button, but ended up pulling points with it. If those extraneous mute points were put back in, score would’ve been tied if my math works out, and we’d have needed a OT Quick Draw question. Which is also a fantastic idea addition, Jim pulls out a random question, they’ve got to speed answer.
My German Shepherd is my favorite hunting dog. While not originally a hunting dog breed he loves chasing squirrels and I love shooting squirrels. It's a mutually beneficial agreement and he brings them to my feet after I head shot them with my .22lr. Everyone wins!
Im going to be honest there isn’t really a lot of trees that a moose sized squirrel could climb on so the rabbit should definitely win that first argument cause I bet a moose sized rabbit would have an insane vertical
19:56 Jim is correct, in fact Many if not most, of the small breeds were breed to hunt varmints. Beagles pack Bay hunt like other hounds, but, The 'wiener dog'? Dachshunds hunt in a school, and chase badgers and such, out of their holes and burrows. Ie. Honey badger? Send in the dachshunds. Savages.
Ryan is wrong about a puffy vest. Core temp matters. Sleeping in a down vest is really comfy. Unrestricted movement when layered. Snug wool vest similarly.
#meatballofthemonth If you buy a rifle for your child, and it is the only rifle he/she will ever be able to use for hunting until the day of his/her death, what cartridge is it chambered in?
