Day 2-6 for breeding is basically just checking on the heifers and keeping them as calm as possible. We usually feed them at least once a day in the barn making sure they don't start getting nervous or stressed. We will have to get them up a few more times before being done breeding and sometimes it can make some of them nervous. Nobody wants to spend the time and money setting up a bunch of heifers and then when its time to breed not be able to catch one.
In this video, we remove all the CIDRs we inserted last week, give each heifer a 5ml shot of Lutalyse (using our Allflex gun), and place a heat patch on each heifer. Typically the heifers should come into heat 66-72 hours after getting this shot. Some will come in heat before and some a little after. There will be some also that never come into heat. We typically get about 65-75% in heat.
