Thanks Andrew. Everyone thinks it's always flat calm when we fish. We do get our fair share of bad weather, it's just hard to capture it on camera. I never looks that rough on video without something for perspective like another vessel. Anyway we love what we do! Thanks for watching.

New subscriber.... I've went back and watched a bunch of your videos and I would like to make a suggestion. On one of your down days tell us about your boat. What is her make, year, and model? Engine, and generator, how she is so adaptable to fish in different fisheries.... You know; what makes your boat Your Boat. Thanks.
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 4 года назад
Thanks for the sub Joel. Excellent comment and suggestion, and much appreciated. It's funny things we don't really think of, and when pointed out seem so obvious. We had planned a bit of a photo/ video montage of the changes our vessel has gone through over the 20 years we have owned her. I think that would be a great way to incorporate your suggestion and should really add to the backstory.

Hi Bill, this one we chucked, but usually we keep the for bait during longlining. I tried cooking some once, but it was improperly prepared, really rubbery and inedible. If I ever learn how I'll definitely share in a CCC. For what its worth, the taste was excellent, but it was akin to chewing a piece of gum, lol!

Any advice on where to locate a tanner crab a couple of months in the summer?
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 3 года назад
Most bays on the eastside of Kodiak have Tanner crab in them. Look for muddy bottom, 10- 50 fathoms deep. They do come up pretty shallow in the summer, so just keep moving your gear around until you find them. Good luck!

Were they normal catches per pot or was that a slow start to the season?

Very slow season. It usually lasts a week or so, this year it was over 2 months. Most boats including us hung it up after a week.

How much do your pots weight? What are the different bait setups in each one?
@EISAlaska

These ones weigh about 100 lbs, we used ground up herring, sayori, and pollock in the bags and jars and salmon and cod as hanging bait.

What is the ratio of crab keep and crap thrown back ? Seems like you thow away a lot
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 3 года назад
It really depends. This season we did have a lot of undersized crab, and based on the pre-season survey this was to be expected. Other seasons we have only had a handful of throwbacks for 50 plus keepers.

Thanks Shawn. Just the timing. Halibut season season closes in early November, and Tanner crab opens mid-January. We had some pinks leftover from halibut fishing so we used them. Halibut heads would be great hanging bait though!

Per your website it says tanner crab is out of season! It also says the season only lasts a few days. What is the meat like?
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 4 года назад
Hey Scott. Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game expected the season to last 10-14 days. It actually lasted longer. We sell some of our catch live off the dock and didn't want to over sell and expected to be in after a week or so.The flavor is amazing. Very rich, sweet flaky meat.
