Pulling stumps - root balls using a Harbor Freight Badland Winch, a few snatch blocks, and my Jeep.

Why dig or pay someone to do this if you have the right tools.....
The power of the pully system - force multiplication and a fulcrum using a tire are the main ingredients to pulling a stump out with its root system.
In this video I'm using my Harbor Freight APEX 12,000 winch (Which I love), two snatch blocks, a few shakles, tree savers and the main star of the show is my 1992 Jeep Cherokee XJ.. The Chief

Good job! The only thing I would do different is to wrap the strap around the base of the bush a 2nd time. That way, as the strap tightens, so shall it tighten around the base of the bush and maybe keep it from sliding up as you pull.

I'm 15 minutes in so far, so maybe you already did this, but the only thing I'd do differently is to have both snatch blocks at the bush, and the end of the system anchored to the bumper. That raises the mechanical advantage from 3:1 to 4:1, from 3 lines to 4 lines coming off the bush, using the same number of snatch blocks. EDIT: And not meaning to criticize or downplay your success, at all. Just making an observation about pulleys and mechanical advantage. Your setup was more than equal to the task, and accomplished what you wanted. So that's a good day's work in anyone's book! Cheers!

Interesting, being new to this, how would you rig a 4:1 using 2 snatch blocks?

Winch has the most pulling power with like only a wrap or two on the spool. Just saying. Good job.

Nice xj I like the fact you kept the turbine rims on it... I used my jeep winch 3 times to get my jeep unstuck , once to get my old furnace and oil tank out of the basement and six times doing what you just did

Should always use a damper blanket draped over the cables under tension, in case one snaps. The weight of the blanket will greatly reduce the risk from whiplash injuring you.

it only nessesary on steel cable. Plastic has not that much tension if it breaks.

Good job and demonstration of snatch blocks. Whole time was thinking I hope he knows where his gas line, electrical, sewer, and irrigation conduits are located. That’s a massive root. Hope your town has yard waste composting at the dump

Fore go the basket attachment, and choke the stump at the base of the root ball.

@@JustJeep_It I have a 1988 Comanche and I'm afraid to winch on it too hard. How many bolts are used to mount your front bumper ?

Put a short choker over the tire so the winch and pulley are in a straight line. Just speaking as a having heavy rig gigging experience. Nice job.

I also hate yard work but this video inspired me!! I’ve been able to straight pull some small stuff with my JK. Next weekend is snatch blocks and the tire trick.

I see this is a older video but I just found your channel...but I'm sure your aware when ever you set up the hook you always want the open side facing up...I noticed your leaving the closed end up...if the rope ever brakes if the closed end is facing up the hook will travel in that direction.....other than that I really enjoyed the video....Thank You for sharing

Well done! I was impatient to laught about seeing the tire compressed like a spring going on an unpredictable trajectory, ending its flight at an unknown destination... Fortunately, that did not happen. Keep it safe, (sarcasm)😊😅

Pulling roots that close to your slab can be catastrophic.

Heads up to be real careful when pulling things stumps so close to a structure. depending on species & age you could be ripping out a chunk of your foundation.

Nice video. You should definitely put a damper on the cables for safety, especially with family around.

Synthetic cables just drop and don't store energy like steel cables.

I have a smallish tree in my front yard and I’ve thought about using this method to pull up the stump. Did the wheel survive without getting warped?

Not good to use the soft shackles with the snatch blocks with sharp edges. The apex one has nice smooth edges to prevent cutting. now get a winch line extension for a 4:1 using a spanish burton

Don’t think that’s such a good idea Hooking to the front of your vehicle and the back is a good way to bend the frame

don't dead head to the winch if anything else is available. Would be more efficient if you had dea headed to the tree behind the jeep.
