I work as a vet tech and we use a pulse ox to monitor our patients too. I was wondering why the numbers got thrown off when in bright lights or when an animal has pigmentation, but it makes so much sense now. Thank you!

Exactly! As an engineering student I hear many commerce ppl say that chaiwala earns more than engineer so dont do Engineering. Wish to give them tight slap. It's engineers who make life possible as we see it today.
@science-y9209
@science-y9209 3 года назад
@@roshanantony64 "...life possible as we see it today.." no.. that's a big fat lie.. Life is gonna be there no matter what.. but our carelessness is wreakin havoc on life and earth.. I do believe in engineers like elon and that woman (who transformed trash into tiles and something useful) ... the kind of engineers we have today.. they don't even study hard.. they just pass.. (iitians aren't the only engineers out there )
@roshanantony64

@@science-y9209 read carefully lady. I wrote *life as we see it today* not just *life*. Life will always be there but we'll be living like in prehistoric stone age like uncontacted tribes. There's more to engineering than Elon musk and that tiles girl. Just pass is not the trait of a good engineer.

I heard news where people go to hospitals with a Spo2 of 30% , hardly gasping for air , waiting for oxygen support and dying after 1 to 2 hours. There are several such cases reported in Delhi and Karnataka .So sad. This is the state of medical infrastructure in our country. Atleast even after this pandemic , people should vote for those politicians who can guarantee our lives. If not , the history will repeat itself.

Most probes have the light sensors on the same side as the emitters so they are detecting reflected light. In hospitals we have probes we tape onto a patient's forehead in some circumstances.

Great and simple presentation. For more advanced Healthcare workers it may be valuable to know some short comings of the pulse ox. CO or carbon monoxide, possibly inhaled from smoke exposure, for example, can trick the pulse ox reading into a false high number. To most pulse ox machines, hemoglobin attached with CO looks the same as O2 attached with hemoglobin, resulting in a bad reading. An arterial blood gas is required for an accurate diagnosis. Also, someone with a very low hemoglobin could theoretically have a 98% spo2 but because of the low oxygen carrying capacity resulting from the low hemoglobin, that person could still have low oxygen getting to their tissue even though Thier spo2 seems to be reading fine. Other blood tests and deliberate observation of the patient will mitigate the short comings of the pulse ox. Ie, blue nail beds, lips and an increased work of breathing.
