I love the Deviate Nitro 2! Really hate having wet feet, so I have several pairs of weatherized shoes, including the Puma DN2 WTR and the VN2 gore-tex. I don't get why Puma chose to make the DN2 WTR water repellent, instead of giving it a waterproof gore-tex upper like the Velocity. We have lots of rain from September to March/April, and it's pretty extreme this time, so a lot of deep puddles. The DN2 can handle a bit of rain, but you do need to avoid the puddles. If it gets too bad, or I don't want to work my route around the puddles, the VN2 will be the clear winner. New Balance also has the Fuel cell Propel in the 'permafrost' version, which is also a weatherized plated option.
I couldn't wear the Deviate Nitro 2 as the toe box is very tight; for reference my Endorphine Speed 2s are snug, but fine, even though they are considered to have a narrow toe box. Pleased I found some wide-fit Deviates and highly recommend them.
Dude the Deviate Nitro 2 for me has been perfect as a cruiser for steady miles (not really for speed tbh.) Takes a little bit of break in but is just soo enjoyable to run in. Top tier Daily trainer for me since the durability is just insane. These are beasts for even moderate trails too.
I’m like 99% sure Puma’s Nitro foam is a supercritical TPEE material. Nitro elite (at least this version) is PEBA Then the nitro elite on the Fast R 2 is an aliphatic TPU
@@conorvaughan3510 I need to correct myself. PEBA, TPEE are subcategories of TPE foams. They are related but obviously have different characteristics. If you go to Wikipedia and/or Google search, you can search for: Thermoplastic elastomer Polyether block amide
I pretty much agree with your assessment except that I don't really notice the plate except maybe at faster paces. I was alternating them a lot with the Novablast 3 last year and the stiffness and stability felt about the same to me. I was listening to a DOR podcast yesterday and Matt mentioned that bending the shoe (when not wearing it) can create flex points in places that can damage it; naturally, I thought of you. Just thought I'd mention it even though I think it's hilarious that some commenters get triggered when you do that.
Man, DN2's stack height measured by runrepeat: heel 31.7 mm (same as Rebel v3), forefoot 26.1 mm (far from official specs), drop 5.6 mm, and that's how I feel running on it, a more low stack and flat shoe, seems it lacks foam height for the plate to work at full potential, not great for easy/recovery runs
How noticeable is the composite plate at slower paces? Could you wear them around town after going for a quick run? Puma released the Forever Run in WTR trim, too!
I was waiting for this for a long time!!! Thanks for the review that no one has done so far for the wtr version 😅 I heard so many things about dv8 ntr2 and I really wanted a weatherized shoe for winter so I got this immediately! I struggled so much with the narrow and long fit, had to do laces so many times to prevent slipping and in fast sessions they killed my feet!! Also gave me black toe nails where the top was creasing… still trying to love them for the every miles since grip and the wtr fabric is really hard to find!! Keep it up with the great videos!!😊
I use it for race/speed training. However, if you pronate, watch out. I hurt my posterior tibial muscle when i did run speed sessions 2-3 times a week in them. My suggestion is to slowly put them in your rotation. Also calf muscles are more sore than usual because i only run in non plated trainers
Dicen que tiene buena estabilidad. Pero he visto vídeos que se aprecia todo lo contrario. Soy pronador leve y nunca he usado placas. Estoy valorando su compra, pero dudo
I picked DN2 75th Anniversary Edition for $89+tax last September at PUMA website. For some reason the 75th Anniversary Edition colorway was reduced to $127 and I used the coupon code that existed at the time to bring it to $89. Yes, it is a bit on the heavy side, so I use them for daily training when the roads are a bit wet. The upper is not WTR like yours. WTR versions carry a $10 premium over regular $160 price. The carbon infused plate is very flexible and is basically there to stabilize Nitro and Nitro Elite foams.
Ooof 170 is a little steep. We are very lucky in the UK that puma shoes are almost constantly on sale. Got myself a pair of these last month for £90. They will take you a couple runs to break in, feel less tight after 10-20 miles. This is a personal preference but I dont like like them for easy days either but wet or even slightly icey threshold days for me are where they truely shine.
I bought a pair of Deviate Nitro 2 WTR in November last year (all black) and it's a great shoe. In heavy rain it can stay dry for like 15-20 mins or so and does't get soaking wet even beyond 20 mins and Puma grip is just best. It's wet today here in London and will wear this shoe again. The wtr material is a bit snug and took me 2 runs to break in. New Balance Permafrost shoes are WTR as well btw.
