I'm not sure the Fast-R gets a fair review here. I think it's designed to be best for runners who land on the forefoot. Neither Nick or Tom land on the toes / forefoot. I do however and have my 5k and marathon pb's in it. I find it supremely comfortable over all distances and speeds. It's a great shoe that really works for me, someone who runs on their toes! I love the channel, content and reviewers. Just think one of the others could do this one more justice.
After running with the great Deviate Elite, I have now got the Fast-R Elite, its a fantastic shoe and I cannot waith to wear it for my next marathon in couple of days!!! Thank you for this review. Cheers
Congratulations to Puma for having the most confusing carbon racer lineup. 🤦🏻♂️ I loved my Deviate Nitro Elite so I’m glad the 2s are similar. I don’t love them for long distances but they are my go to for anything up to 10k
From a really good overall racer (deviate elite), to this weird lineup, which feels more like an experiment portfolio than proper shoe lineup. I think they should just drop the regular Deviate. Make one Deviate shoe for long distance racing, equivalent of vaporfly/adios pro/metaspeed. One shoe for shorter race distances (like streakfly). And combine the original Deviate (non elite) with Velocity lineup and call it velocity 3. So the lineup should be something simpler like: Puma Deviate Elite (half & marathon) (plated) Puma (insert shoe name) (5k - 10k racer) (plated) Puma Velocity (daily trainer, no plate) Then possibly add on to that a max cushion easy day shoe (like nimbus, invincible, more v4) And something a bit faster than Velocity, without a plate. Forefoot made of nitro elite, heel regular nitro. (comparable to Mach 5, speed 3)
Great review guys. So do you still recommend the Deviate Nitro Elite V1 as the best Puma racer? I really enjoy that shoe and it seems that an “upgrade” isn’t justified. Especially at the current price range of the V1. Thanks!
I can see myself running a marathon in the Rnitro elite. It’s comfortable for a carbon plate shoe. I PRed in a non race shoe without a carbon plate (Hoka Mach), so I tend to go for cushion and comfort in a lightweight shoe.
Sounds like Puma doesen't have a proper marathon shoe in their lineup? They need a softer shoe with more agressive plate than the one in Deviate 2. Like full 40mm pebax nitro elite with 8mm drop and redesigned more agressive plate with less pumagrip in outsole and super breathable upper. Hope the Deviate nitro elite 3 delivers in that department
I hope it doesn't. Puma is one of the only companies now making lower stack height shoes. Not everyone wants to run in giant mattress midsoles that require ridiculous stability features to keep you from falling over in them. I appreciate the lower stack heights.
@@davidlynch9049 Agreed , recently ran a huge pb in the elite 2 in a recent marathon (previos PB was in vapourfly 2), now most of that was due to better training , however it handled the 26.2 with no problems
@@JohnBirtchetSharpe I have version 1 - they are very versatile! And quiet workouts, and high-speed workouts, and short races on the ground - super sneakers! I ran in version 2. These sneakers perfectly push me into the hills ! It's just unreal to push up, haven't you noticed? I am very happy with both versions. (I can compare with Nike Vaporfly 1, 2 and 3) Greetings from Russia))
