Definitely on my shortlist for next daily trainer. I have the Deviate Nitro 2 and the Nitro foam feels great underfoot. I even took it as my trail shoe on vacation. The wide base of the Magnify 2 is very attractive to me though as I enjoy a nice stable neutral shoe.

This really is a great option for a daily trainer! I'm currently testing the Brooks Ghost Max, which I think is also worthy of being on your list (it has a 6mm drop).

Yeah, a lower drop sure seems to suit a lot of people, but I’m sure Puma has done their market research and the 10mm drop in this type of shoe is best option for the most people. It seems like a drop a lot of brands choose for the same type of shoe.

Hey Matt, thanks for the review. Could the Magnify Nitro 2 also work as a good all-purpose, all-day/everyday, walking shoe? Especially for someone with a heavy build with foot and heel pain?
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ 11 месяцев назад
Hey Ali! Yes, I suppose it could work well for an all around daily shoe, especially if you favor a softer feeling because of heel pain! I think it would be a little too soft for me to go for walks in, but if I was just doing daily tasks it would work great!

How does it compare to the Deviate Nitro 2? I love that model is this worth having as well?
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ Год назад
The Deviate Nitro 2 is a bit more well rounded. The DN2 can be used for easy running, but it is probably better suited to picking up the pace (tempo/intervals), and even races (if you didn't have a specific race shoe). The Magnify Nitro 2 is suited for those easier efforts (think easy to recovery paces). So to answer your question, yes, I think there is a place for both shoes in your rotation. I really think you'll enjoy how the Magnify Nitro 2 feels.

How is the sizing compared to Velocity V2? I had to size down a full EU size for Velocity V2 and also for Liberate V1. Is it the same for Magnify V2? These are on sale here in Europe for €63 and I am tempted to buy something more cushioned. How much more cushion and softness is there compared to Velocity V2? What would you say, 30%? Thanks
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ 9 месяцев назад
I haven't run in the Velocity or the Liberate, however, I wear the same size in these as the other Puma shoes i've had in the past. Saying that, these are more roomy than my Deviate v1s were, so I would think you would need to size down again.

How about a comparison video of the MN2 VS the FRN?
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ Год назад
Thanks so much! This is a great suggestion as there are a lot of similarities! Do you think some neutral runners would choose a stability shoe when there is also a neutral option? I think they certainly could and would probably benefit from a light stability shoe in a lot of cases, but I don’t think runners needing a little guidance would opt for the MN2.
@captaincaveman9411
@captaincaveman9411 Год назад
I totally agree that neutral runners could benefit from some light stability elements. That said, everyone’s foot and running style is different. Whilst the Tempus didn’t work for me, the FRN certainly did. I love the way it cups and locks my foot in. The step-in feel is awesome! Totally loving it for my easy runs. The only issue I have with it is that the laces come loose ever so often. Other than that, it’s a great great shoe for me. I’ve not tried the MN2, so a comparison video would be great to have!

@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ 8 месяцев назад
It depends what kind of runs I want to do more of and whether I like a very soft ride. The Magnify 2 is very soft and perfect for easy daily runs. The Deviate 2 is a little firmer and better than the Magnify for picking up the pace.

This was the Matt review I was waiting for because I'm considering the Mag2 as my next easy pace / recovery shoe when the More v4 reaches 500 miles and is retired. Great review as always, Matt. My one and only concern about the Mag2 is the 10 mm heal drop. When running easy pace workouts, I run relatively upright compared to when I'm running up-tempo workouts. Hence, I appreciate lower heel drops like 4 mm for easy paces. Conversely, I appreciate higher heel drops for up-tempo runs because of the more forward lean. This is where I'm torn. But thanks for the comprehensive review. Cheers.
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ Год назад
If you can swing the higher drop, I 100% recommend this shoe! It's just a cruisy dream to run in! It's funny that you prefer the higher drops for running faster. Funny because I'm the opposite! 👊🏽
@Wings_nut
@Wings_nut Год назад
@its_Matt_B_ It's not so much that I prefer higher drops. I wish all my shoes were 0 mm to 4 mm. Nowadays, these are harder to find; so, I make the most of it. Lean forward for up- tempo, lean less for easy pace.

I have both but haven't run in the 2s yet as I just got them last night. The 1s are still a very good shoe. I've done close to 200km in them. I only grabbed the 2s because they are on sale in Australia. I got the 1s in my usual 12 US and I possibly could have gone 11.5 but they've been fine and who knows how the 11.5 would feel. I almost feel the same about the 2s, but I think they are a touch shorter than the 1s. Walking around the house I don't think it's night and day between the 1 and 2, but I am yet to run in the 2. On the run, the 1s feel like a roomier, more cushioned version of the Velocity Nitro 2. The upper is comfortable . The shoe rolls through nicely. It's not slappy like the Foreverrun, which I hated. I'd say the 1s are quite responsive for what is called a max cushioned shoe. They don't bottom out and feel stable.

Wow you think 140 is cheap for an every day trainer,, next you will be saying 400 is good value for a race day shoe. Know your Brand Puma are budget, these are 2-3 times over priced 40-70 is price point I pay.
@its_Matt_B_
@its_Matt_B_ 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for your comment! It’s important that I get checked if I make a statement that doesn’t fit what a viewer hold to be true! Pricing is indeed relative. I’m sorry if you took offense that my opinion on pricing doesn’t match yours. It was unintentional. I review popular running shoes, so it is possible the shoes I review are biased to this price range making me draw the conclusion this is a good price. I don’t often review shoes that are €£¥$40-70. With that said, wait a year or two and you will likely be able to get this in your price range. New shoes always carry a premium price tag. While Puma does sell more inexpensive options than companies like Nike or Adidas, they are far from a budget company, at least they’re not anymore. Moreover, they are positioning themselves as direct competitors to the larger running shoe companies and have vastly invested in sustainable manufacturing and cutting edge design/technology. Your request that I “know [my] brand” is astute, although I would answer that I already do.

Just don't buy them straight after release and wait for sales? Anyone paying full list price is a chump really, as the changes year to year are never that substantial that it's not just worth buying a slightly older model. These reviews are still relevant and helpful even in that case.
