@@postholocene I wear hearing aids and never did have great hearing so I don't have a clue what it's a bout. I looks like tight work, but does it blow my mind? Maybe in a month or too.
My dog is named Julep, we named her that because her Mom and siblings were rescued from Georgia and we figured she was a Southern girl, and by chance she loves to sit on the porch. 😁 Love this song💖
5:53am in America, after going thru 2 snooze cycles(which I rarely do), I also never usually go straight to You Tube, but found this song, which I know because I have the cd, knew it was going to be a good one to help me get going
Punch Brothers I died happy in my sleep I died happy in my sleep Our children around And you looking down from- Heaven's a julep on the porch Heaven's a julep on the porch You and me rocking A grandfather clock is Tick, tick, tocking To the time we used to wind it She brought the sugar and the mint She brought the sugar and the mint And he brought the whiskey Asked for my blessing "Yes, sir, I know she's-" Heaven's a julep on the porch Heaven's a julep on the porch You and me rocking A grandfather clock is Tick, tick, tocking To the time we used to wind it God, the time we used to wind it Now that time stands still We can drink our fill Out of silver that will never Tarnish like we will You were just a girl that I should meet You were the girl that I would meet For drinks…
So beautiful.. and I cannot believe how perfectly balanced the mix is live, every single time! You all have such an amazing thing going, I can't wait to see you live myself someday
Thank you Punch Brothers for being a serious part of my life. Seriously. You were there at all the toughest moments of the past 5 years, which have been just a train wreck for me. You’ve always been there to help me feel better, providing the soundtrack, and tying yourselves to memories. Thank you.
So my interpretation of the song is of a man who has died and spends his time (or the standing still of time) on a porch drinking mint juleps. He's watching his son standing at his grave with a woman. The son is explaining to him how he's planning on marrying her... it's kind of beautiful and i hope accurate
No other band attends to dynamics and balance like this. (Except, perhaps for other Thile projects like the Goat Rodeo crew and Nickle Creek). A very classical music sensibility missing in many popular acts.
