Punishment of Luxury *should* have been friggin' famous! They were THAT band... the one everyone wanted to sound like, but couldn't. That is, if fellow musicians actually heard them, because for whatever reason, these guys got left in the proverbial dust, when they should have been damn ROCK STARS!!!
Mr Lost Pop TV, I have to say that I can now die in peace, because on 14th March 1979, I watched this very broadcast as an obsessed 14 year old, sat in my parents lounge with a microphone straining from my dad's music centre to the Phillips TV speaker and recorded this in awe and ecstasy, as Punilux were 'my band' in 1979. I accidently threw away the tape (complete with my excited shrieks of 'Brilliant') in 1995 and thought that I would never see or hear this again, as it was a local Tyne Tees one off 'youth' programme, so must have had a very limited audience. I can't even remember how I found out that they were performing, as info was so limited in those days. I even spoke to Brian Bond, the singer of Punilux at one of their gigs in Middlesbrough a couple of years ago and even he said he didn't think it still existed. I am a very, very happy nostalgic man. I congratulate you soooooo much. Where you got it from I do not know, but thank you, thank you, thank you!
Middlesbrough rock garden... someone should do a documentary on that venue regarding punk ... think just about every punk new wave band played there in the 70s an very early 80s .. I used to live just up the road .. uk subs played there so much at one point I thought they must be the house band .. saw the damned a couple of times and the stranglers.. town hall crypt and also gaskins plus one club and empire linthorpe rd .. Middlesbrough was definitely a place to see punk bands back then ...Great day's!!
WOW!! That brought back memories of my youth. I was lucky to see PUNILUX way back in 1979/80 at The Rock Garden Middlesbrough. They had just released their superb album Laughing Academy. Awesome gig!
Was that at Knebworth? Reading? I saw them at one of them and watched a MASSIVE fight develop in the mosh pit. To this day I believe it was their incredible music that inspired it. POWER.
Comments read ?! Suggest our north east band underrated ( for sure!!) Couldn't possibly of been b cos , of some North South divide kind o' ting could it why! No mann!! 😅
I've got Laughing Academy and saw them live at Knebworth (or maybe Reading - a lot of drugs in those days 😁). This is the worst performance of this song I have seen. They can be much better than this. Survival of the fattest means ripoff in every way. Never a truer lyric sung.
