Chamdi is leather of animal. Dhambidi is coin of exchange during Brits. (12 Dhambidis are ONE Anna; and 16 ANNAS are One rupee = 192 Dhambidis made ONE rupee). To make money exchange for general public to understand easily, ₹.1.00 was divided into 100 (Naya) Paisa. Chamdi after making a chappal from it, the left over bits had no use; similarly, Dhambidi (1/192) had no value of exchange post independence. Fact of the scene prevailing b4 Independence was for 3 Dhambidis we used to get 2 idlis and a vada with side dish.

@@qwerty9889 leather currency was only for a short while during Islamic Regime (I think Md. Bin Thuglak) if I remember what I was taught in school. This leather currency was duplicated in huge qty by cobblers and thus made the exchequer meet heavy loss (fake currency may have started much earlier; but, like Pak of predemon what we witnessed). So, they had to embark on metal again.
