Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ru-vid.comUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

I would like to see this in action. Every single trainer out there sits and talks with a CALM puppy. I have never seen a video where they have a 9 week old puppy aka carpet shark coming at them during the video. Not saying this method doesn’t work but I’d like to see exactly how while the behavior you are speaking of is happening. Just sayin 😏

I was recently (one week ago today) gifted with a little puppy.. this first week has been BUSY to say the least. I’ve read books for years (I have wonderfully behaved ‘grand dogs’).. and one of the books has been especially helpful. But finding this channel and watching Rachel not just training, but EXPLAINING everything, including the why this, and the why that of all the poor behavior. For instance, I’ve learned raising my voice hinders the training of biting. And this puppy is determined! She seems to know what it means when I say ‘no bite’ or constantly sway her with one of her toys..it’s only been a week, so I have hope. 😂 Today, we pretty much conquered sitting on demand..it shows her that jumping at me will not get her a place on my lap, but sitting first and calming down, will. We both have quite a ways to go, but I see promise. Thank you Rachel for all the good information.

My buddy has a dog that acts super crazy whenever all us guys meet in the garage for our weekly BS session. I sit down and cross my leg up over my other leg so she can't put her paws or body up in my lap and I completely ignore her until she calms down. Once she's calm I say her name, tell her she's good and pet her. This has been over a year of this ritual and now she never jumps on me or acts like a crazy dog when I enter. She has completely figured me out because she's smart. She's acting according to my behavior instead of hers. People need to resist the urge to reward initial anxiety with yelling and anxiety. Great video.

Thank you SO MUCH for these videos. I hate to admit this but I got my first dog in college and had no idea what I was getting into. Thankfully she turned out amazing because she’s a crazy smart husky. 8 years later my husband and I knew we were ready for another puppy and I spent weeks studying these videos and we picked up our sweet 8 week old goldendoodle puppy last week and EVERYTHING you teach has worked for us!! I’m so happy I feel like I am making up for my past mistakes and teaching our new puppy from the very beginning 💚. He has had only 1 accident in 5 days, is getting better at naps in crate and sleeps soundly in the kennel between us taking him out every 3 (now he goes 4 hours!) he can even sit and is getting way better about not chewing on furniture etc just in this small amount of time using this method. Thank you so much for spending your time teaching!

I got my Cockapoo puppy back in November and he has been such a handful. I have a crate for him as well as a puppy pen. His biting and nipping is still a bit concerning. I redirect him almost every time. He has all kinds of toys that I can use for redirection. One of the big things is he will just randomly snap to bite at our faces so I have told everyone do not put your face down towards him but that is difficult when we have to pick him up. My poor husband has already had his lip bit several times. We have and still do redirection. We also put him in the pen for calm down time when we see he is way up there. I spend time working with him on exercises like he knows sit, stay, down, shake, roll over, go find, and leave it as well as take it and come. Right now recall is only working if I am rewarding him with treats. I have one of them snuffle mats and we do the go find with it almost daily. He does love to learn just the random snapping at faces is one big one that I just haven't gotten him to stop. I have tried so much. Then the next problem is when I have to put him into the pen for him to calm down it's like he knows it every time. Basically he has figured out what behaviors lead him to having to go to the pen so the next thing he does is run and run and run. No recall, no treats, nothing seems to work. Right now my downstairs is very open so baby gates won't work but I am moving to my first house in a week and boy oh boy am I going to have up baby gates. Hoping that helps with that. The last problem is he is extremely attached to me. It is great he loves me so much. I am a stay at home Mom so I am here all the time. I do everything with him so he is very use to me being here so when I go to go upstairs he throws a complete fit and he isn't so thrilled when I have to leave to go to the store with my husband or anything. He just has a complete melt down. I have practiced leaving the room and not coming back in until he is calmed down because I don't want to reinforce the behavior. You can give him any toy or treat and he just isn't having it so I am really unsure of how to help with that without making it worse. My husband works a lot so I am naturally just here but I don't want him feeling all stressed out when he can't be in a room with me or if I have to leave. Any advice would be great.

10wk cavoodle here. I put her in the pen and have been doing redirection….BUT wondered if you can tell me what to do when I put her in the pen, as she wants to get out and back over to me. She is great in the crate overnight (with potty breaks), but she will howl and cry etc intermittently in the pen. Help, I have been able to leave her in the crate for 1-2 hrs when I have appointments, but I am so stressed when I am home and I can’t get her to like being in either a crate or pen when I am in the house. If I could get her to be quiet (neighbours here) I would not feel so stressed.

I rescued a puppy at 10 weeks old; she's now 6 months. She is very smart, sweet and usually obedient. Today, I was shoveling snow and she has never seen a snow shovel so as I was shoveling, she was barking and charging at the shovel as I pushed it. After a while, she randomly bit my calf. I yelled at her & immediately removed her behind a gate where she can see me. She knew she was in trouble. I think she reacted impulsively and was maybe over excited? When I brought her inside, I put her in her play pen cage with her toys. She knew she was in trouble; she immediately layed down, didn't cry or bark to get out like she usually does. What should I have done differently to teach her not to bite again? Is there anything I can do now-after the fact? I'm upset with her, she left a mark w/2 punctures. What should I do proactively to prevent it from happening again? How can I train her never to bite, even when playing?

Please help. My roommate has an older dog who is anxious and not social at all. I just got a puppy and after my roommate tried introducing them too soon (their older dog growled and nipped at my puppy, did not bite him) my puppy then started getting aggressive growling and biting more. I’m not sure if his aggression is due to that encounter. What can I do to make sure my puppy feels safe while we are rooming with the dog that has not been taught any manners? And yes, I’ve tried training the older dog but the owner is not very cooperative or on board with being intentional to continue to train them. I have baby gates to keep them separate at least and supervise my puppy at all times.

@Yeetocheetoooooooo
@Yeetocheetoooooooo 3 года назад
Hey there! Sit on the floor and every time they try to get on you, push them back and use a cue word (like “no” or “back”) over and over and over. They will start to get it (after like 50 times) and will slow down. As soon as they stop and/or sit down and just give you eye contact, Mark with “yes!” And reward. Learning “wait”, (such as waiting for food, or waiting to come through a door or out of a crate) paired with a release word (such as “okay!” Or “free”) it also really helps. Hope this helps!

I am all for not letting my dog on the couch or furniture until they're past the puppy biting. I was taught to never get on eye level with a dog. I don't know if it's always a necessary rule but I think for the first few months while they're still prone to nipping it makes sense. I'm planning to keep my puppy off the furniture until they're older, just to make sure I stay safe and they learn to respect personal space.

Hey Rachel, our puppy does really well with all the commands at home but when there r people at our place or when v are walking outside, he doesn't listen to anything. It seems like he is a different dog at that time.

I have a 2 month old goldendoddle and I try to redirect when he goes after.. let say, the puppy pad and I try to call out for him and he doesn't even pay attention to me. When he goes after my pants and I get him off' he's so continuesly jumps and tries to nip. I put him in a play and he jumps out. I do have a crate that I'm going to start using. But I'm really getting worried about him going after my babies.

will this work on a 4 1/12 week old Shih Tzu puppy. I've tried the redirection, but he goes back to biting. He still goes back to biting after I play with the biting toy.

Hello! I am sitting here using your videos to calm down from exhausted frustration of being with our almost 5 month new puppy. The thing is she is deaf and many suggestions are only applicable to hearing dogs. She is very smart and has learned many signs quickly. But the puppy biting! Is getting to be a lot and then I’m just too tired to do fun positive training with her. I’m just having a moment I think!😅 Do you have any experience with training deaf dogs ? I love your content thank you for your dedication any help, pointers, or suggestions as to where to find help would be greatly appreciated!

My puppy nips and bites hard. Even if I tick my hands away he will bite my arm or breast.. he’s a menace and it’s frustrating. I have scars and cuts and it doesn’t look good 😩

You are SOOO helpful! I really am big about redirecting but it seems my puppy chooses to but me instead? Do I need to get him more toys? Thank you for all your help! He is a 13 week old Great Pyrenees and poodle mix!

I have a 17-18 week old Alapaha pup. I call him over to pet him and cuddle but then he nips me. He actually drew blood yesterday. I have been sticking a chew toy in his mouth every time he nips but he just keeps doing it. I understand consistency is key but he just doesn't seem to be getting it. I turn around and tries biting my back and back of my neck. He has a few different things he enjoys chewing but he just keeps repeating the same habits.

I have different toys to help with this but my puppy is just not interested in them. He only wants to bite and chew on my hands, pants, sleeves, and shoes. I try to redirect him with a toy but he will not go for the toy.

My 3yo border collie grew up with multiple contractors on site. She loves everyone, so taking her out was like walking a helium balloon in a high wind. I had to train the PEOPLE to require “sit-for-pets!” She now sits on guest’s feet, and looks at me like, “this person is not well trained! They are not petting me, yet!!”

My puppy won't wait untill I'm done turning 180° n walk a bit far to start calling him. He'll stick to one of my legs in standing position n would walk around with me in that same way. He wouldn't refrain himself until there's food or other distractions like sounds from neighbours or vehicles passing by or insects crawling, flying. Trying to put him down on his fore limbs or stop him from holding my calves ... there isn't a way that's worked so far than the distractions I mentioned above.

So I've been told to never use the Crate as punishment, but that seems extremely contradictive of this information. How do you give your puppy a "time out" to settle, without using the Crate as punishment. Is putting them in the Crate for a time out still not punishment?

This doesn't work for my Boston terrier pup. The yelping only makes him more excited and bitey. Redirecting only makes him want the original thing even more it seems. I've heard it's harder to direct the attention of a Boston terrier. I just give him a time out in his pen when he gets too bitey
