Stonnie Dennis This is true. One must learn to except that fact. It has to be hard putting your ideas out there for anyone to critique so I wouldn't blame you one bit for being hesitant to do so. Since I've been learning about dog training I've seen there are many factions of peoples thoughts on training methods and they seem to be very hostile towards each others philosophy on the matter. No doubt about it though, you have a gift for explaining the philosophy behind what you are doing in a easy to understand way plus you are a very likable character. Either way I'll keep watching!

I love your approach to exercise and mental stimulation for dogs. However, this is the first time I gotta take issue with you, Brother Stonnie! I have a foster dog who needs to be crated at night. I only have one crate. My dog is big mad that he can't sleep in a crate and only gets a bed! As soon as the morning comes and they get up for that first morning pee, he runs back to his crate to sleep for another hour. These doggies go to the beach about 3x a week plus dog parks, downtown, outdoor restaurants etc. Some dogs really do love the cozy feeling of their own private space, especially grumpy dogs with youthful siblings. I have learned a lot from you and still waiting to learn if you plan to have a train-the-trainer course.

I found your "no dog goes into a field and gets full off peanuts" particularly funny. If my dog figured out how to dig up peanut plants, he definitely would. When I was first training my dog, he used to regularly go into my garden and steal kale leaves off the plants. He liked eating the stems. He still does like them, same with carrots and celery sticks. Whenever I do have whole peanuts out , or peanut butter and apples my dog does request we share. And whenever someone breaks out an orange or citrus fruit he does demand we share a slice with him. That being said I'm sure he'd love some fresh liver pate as well.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've always felt this way about crates, never used one with my dog. Now that I'm getting into dogtraining, a lot of trainers had convinced me that crates are a good thing, and that they help the dog feel safe. They made me feel like I was robbing them of their safe space. I understand the need for a dog to retreat to one, but it doesn't have to be a small prison!

Supervision, exercise and confinement, in descending order. that logical. I thought that was the case, but you confirmed it. thanks. I picked up Anja, 8 week old Labrador last Saturday. (immunizations are up to date for her age. just in case, I pick up when other dogs come around. will do that until she is inoculated to a safe level) I'm applying your good student environment. I take her for short walks early in the am and evening around local baseball fields.its perfect because there are fences on both side of the decomposed granite pathway. This provides security and a relatively controlled environment for her to follow and experience the outside world. I've been using treats to reward when she is following me. its working, she follows close with her tail wagging straight up in the air. Sometimes when I look back to find her, its as if she disappeared....until I look at my heels and I find her sitting there patiently. Its easy to love on her. For periodic daytime use, I constructed a play pen ( open door crate, and little fence, 10 ft radius pen) for her to rest, eat and feel secure. I put this in the corner of the yard. When we come back from walks or being out, she looks tired, so I place her there. This morning after our walk ( 630am) I put her down on the side yard and she frolicked right into the play area, stopped at her bowl and looked up at me. as if to say, can you feed me? She is adapting. your words of not overloading your dog to heart.... I'm going to implement crate tips. I love the Five Guys joke!

The tongue getting stuck in one of those "KONG" type lick toys only happens when there is ONE HOLE, this creates a suction. The KONG has TWO HOLES which prevents this. There are others like the Chew King Premium Treat Dog Toy, this holds up to my Malinois' chewing from Amazon, but they all must have two holes and most do because of all the problems that happened in the past.

I need help potty training my husky she’s 7 weeks and is in process to get her shots so she can’t go outside because she can get parvo I don’t know what to do? 🤔
@usernameusername2795
@usernameusername2795 6 лет назад
At 8 weeks they can get first parvo shot. buy training pads at sams for $15 and put a treat on the training pad. If she pees/poops on training pad give them 3-5 treats. This is hard to do as it has a lot to do with timing, and you're going to have to pay attention whenever they go to the usual pee/poo area of the house. After second parvo shot (3 months by now) start taking her outside, and try going into areas where it might not be so popular for dogs. At 4 months it's rabies and last parvo booster shot, you can pretty much take her anywhere and by now she should be used to peeing/pooping outside.
@johnbruzzi4381
@johnbruzzi4381 6 лет назад
You can take your puppy outside, she'll be fine. Just because your puppy goes outside doesn't mean she'll get parvo. That's crazy!

Dam's antibodies for viruses are transferred to the whelps (her newborn puppies) through colostrum breast milk the first 48 hours only and these antibodies fade @ 10 -12 weeks; most dogs 12 weeks. If puppy did not nurse, was given only formula, they most likely have little to no antibodies present for common viruses. If you locate information presented by Dr. Ronald Schultz - study titer testing and other vaccination information by him - he is the top small animal immunologist in the USA. He is on staff at the Univ of Wisconsin. Here is a very educational video with Dr Schultz featured as the speaker - lots to learn here! truth4pets.org/2012/07/titer-test-drschultz/

If you put the dog in the crate with the toy and the dog food, and leave it in there while going to work or wherever, will it not eventually have to go to the bathroom again and just end up going in the crate? Because unless someone works from home, they can't exactly come back to let it out of its crate right? What then is the solution to this especially with a small puppy in poddy-training??
@jdavida97
@jdavida97 8 лет назад
Ive heard from a lot of trainers that puppies won't go where they sleep... But if a while has passed.. Is this really a set rule? I would imagine a puppy who is not fully poddy trained would not care if it was in its crate or not

@corkancreationscallenecork3744
I have a dachshund that someone got from me at 8 weeks old.The people did not have time to train him properly,so he got used to pottying in the house.I made the mistake of trying paper training.So,he is very confused.He is also VERY distructive.But I have to get him trained or he has to go to the pound,not my choice.My daughter will get rid of him.George belongs to my two year old grandson and they love each other very much.George has had some accidents upstairs.Do you have a water schedule?He sleeps with us(my grandson and I),so he gets up thru the night to potty.Do you have a feeding and watering routine?Please advice me.Dachshunds are a very stubborn breed.I do believe he has been abused,because of pottying in the house.I have a two year old with me at ALL times.PLEASE help.I love George and want to keep him.And how can we break him of barking at people in the house.

Watched the whole video, but the part I've never seen before is filling the kong with dog food and then making them wait for it. GENIUS!!!

I found your channel today while looking up tips to train a dog that I plan on getting in a few months (a silver lab)... And I'm not 100% sure how it happened but I've now watched at least 20 videos and subscribed!! You are very entertaining to watch and very informative!! You take something that most people dread (people always say "well if you get a dog you know you'll have to train it) and make it seem so simple... I'm excited to get a new puppy for myself and my family and now ,thanks to you, I'm also excited to train that puppy!!
