@@forrestfey A lot of people in America/Canada cut off ears from Dobermans for "aesthetic"... Tails for dogs; usually is done for when the breed is too small for it's tail, OR for aesthetics. Either or. : /
As a special instructor for infants and toddlers, I truly appreciated Dr. Scott and his greeting to Daniel. Adults with disabilities truly enjoy being treated respectfully and age appropriately. Thank you for a wonderful show that I am really excited to watch each time it pops up
Yes they do. Even when they insist on watching cartoons all day. I explain why it's a housemate's turn to choose the program. I also explain that it is okay to ask for help.
I was looking for this comment! I have done babysitting/daycare for alot of my life with many different families. And I can say this is true. Ppl like Daniel may not be able to vocalize what they need/want but they def deserve to be treated and spoken to the same way we would anyone else ❤️
As an autistic person who immediately gets treated differently when people know my diagnosis, yes! We are all just people. Also, how terrible is it that people say "the person is mentally at this and this (younger) age" and then use it as an excuse to treat them without respect for their mind or body? As though children do not deserve respect either. (Saying someone is at a mentally younger age is a problem in and of itself, but I have no energy to go into that😂)
I had three brothers and no sisters. My eldest and younger brother were both mentally challenged and the youngest was autistic and also nonverbal. It used to upset me that people would talk louder and overly animated. Some would stand away and ignore them. They never came to our house.. Sometimes our close relatives would cry. I learned very young to be patient with the adults as they were heart broken. My one brother and I were patient but we also were siblings and decided very young to treat them like normal siblings which meant an occasional argument. Proper sharing was something we not only had to remind the boys about but also the adults who would let them do and take what they wanted, break whatever they wanted, and WE would get blamed, not them. The youngest would take food off of our plates with his hands and eat. We had to just take it. We could never have friends over. Then I saw the "Miracle Worker" where teacher Anne Sullivan taught the out of control child, deaf, nonverbal, and blind girl Helen Keller, how to stay seated, only eat her food and to use utensils. I then made a plea with my family to teach my brother. I led the way. At first my grandparents thought I was mad but my parents supported me and it worked! Our lives changed very much. Not perfect but so much better and my brothers were eventually so much more socialized and actually happier! I grew up and became a Special Education teacher then a Social Worker. I adored my brothers; they taught me about life!
I just want to add, many people with autism absolutely dislike being touched, especially by strangers. The pat on the shoulder was meant to include the boy, but you never know which feelings this causes in autistic people, especially when they are non-verbal.
I love how Scott goes up and addresses/says hello to Danel just like he does everyone else knowing he wont get a verbal response but still treating him like the person he is. It just goes on to show just how amazing of a person he is
For a lot of autistic people, animals are our only friends and bring us comfort when people treat us like less than human. I'm happy Chewy will live a good life!
Agreed. I have been diagnosed with level 1 high-functioning autism and My family breeds havanese dogs. One puppy my mom wanted to keep because she was a chocolate dog(rare gene where they have a brown nose and light eyes) and was in the last litter of opal who is nearing retirement. But this puppy always had milk come out of her nose and couldn't eat enough, so we tube fed her every two hours. Now she can't eat anything bigger than a piece of kibble without choking, and hacks a little after she ears or drinks, but otherwise plays and acts like a normal happy puppy. She is one year old now and is not going to be a breeder because mom is worried about her not being able to eat enough during a pregnancy. But we are keeping her because she is my incredibly sweet little potato named cinnamon. She will snuggle up to me for hours( which is unusual for havanese females, usually the males want to be on you while females want to be next to you) she is the best dog ever. So glad I saved her. She will come and snuggle especially if I'm angry or sad. Thx for reading my fife paragraph essay lol.
(The coughing thing wasn't a worry genetically because it was congenital nerve damage in her throat from birth. Meaning she couldn't pass it onto her kids.)
@@Twilight24682 pls dont use the term aspergers(or high functioning) as it originated from nazi germany to decide which autistic people should be in work camps and who should be killed.
We need more people who interact with wheelchair users like was shown and nonverbal people. I have so many times had people speak to those with me and not myself even briefly so it's nice to see how Scott interacted with Daniel and not just the people who can speak.
I agree. I am sorry about your experiences. I work with individuals who have mental disabilities. Some are nonverbal, some have physical disabilities. I interact with all of my clients on their level. It is hard when running doctor's appointments though. Often the doc does speak to staff rather than the patient.
That is so true. Many doctors are just go, go, go and don't take the time needed to truly include the primary patient. As a teen, the doctor would ask a question and direct it to me. I learned to turn my head toward my mother and even the thickest doctor would eventually get it and address my mother. When I became a Social Worker working with cognitively aware, physically handicapped people, I did the same thing. I only intervened when the patient would ask me to do so. I was not going to do what doctors kept trying to do to my mother.
I’m very impressed with how well Scott interacted with the young man in the wheelchair- there are a lot of people who are intimidated by trying to interact with someone who is nonverbal like that. Scott was totally comfortable.
chewy's mama was not having it, i hope the breeder re-evaluates her having future litters chewy is a sweet puppy but his mama does not have all the patience needed for puppy care
For sure. Any breeding animal who turns on their offspring maybe shouldn't be part of a breeding program. Spay her and keep her as a pet. (Jan Griffiths).
@@douglasgriffiths3534 with the limited details i don't know if chewy's mama did just have that short a temper or if chewy wasn't weening quick enough and his mama wasn't tolerating the teething puppy any longer then she did(nature is rarely kind when enforcing weening ) so like, maybe not never breed her again but get the puppies off her before they really start teething?
I had rotties before. If mama instead of nipping her pup into behaving, she attacks her pup to the point of mishaping the skull, arm and tail then it's a mama that shouldn't be a mama at all. Rotties when bred right are gentle giants that will only show case their power when absolutely necessary. Teaching a pup proper behavior is far from needing to show that level of aggression.
@@prcervi If she attacks her pups, that's a sign of bad temperament which is NOT wanted in breeding..even when the pups suckle a bit hard dogs don't normally full on attack and hurt their pups, that's not ok and should not be allowed, she shouldn't be bred. You should only breed calm dogs, never ones who snap like that especially to that degree. It's not natural for an animal to attack their young like this, correcting absolutely but attacking never..it's kinda counterproductive to the whole natural need to spread your genes.
Being on the autistic spectrum myself, it's nice to see Dr Scott speaking to danial as just another human being and it means a lot for me to see that. Having rabbits around me has helped more than I realised and helps me feel really calm when I feel very overwhelmed. Seeing this episode has really inspired me to want to go into animal therapy 😊
Scott, thank you for treating Daniel as a human being. Knowing he can't respond like other people would, but still talking directly to him. We need more people in the disability community like you.
I hope that poor chewy doesn't have a congenital defect of some kind. The mother may have attacked him because she sensed something was wrong - this sadly happens sometimes with dogs and all other animals as a survival instinct. Luckily Chewy's x-rays look good and he seems to be in good health. The only other reason I could think of for a dam to attack her puppy would be that she was a first time mother and her maternal instincts hadn't really kicked in yet.
@@Sloxchy maybe she had mental issues, popular dogs like Rottweilers often are bred irresponsibly in puppy mills, and as such, are not given enough attention with socializing with other dogs and people, or paying attention to what genes that could cause mental issues the parents may have. Adopting a dog earlier then 11 weeks can also cause mental issues. Puppies learn how hard they can bite without hurting from littermates
we breed, and we had (and are keeping as a pet because she is so sweet. She has congenital nerve damage in her throat, causing her timing while swallowing to be off, causing milk to come out her nose and block her airways, making her get off to breathe. I tube fed her every two hours and now she is a happy little girl who makes weird noises.)a puppy who has a condition and her mother never even tried to nip her, and still fed her. And this mother is not afraid to scold her kids. Although 3 breeding females doesn't count for all dogs. But your theory, in my experience, is false for havanese fogs. Maybe not other breeds or other animals. The mothers will eat their stillborns and dead puppies. (Unfortunately a few puppies randomly die for their first two weeks of life and there is nothing you can do.)
dogs understand autistic people really well and are often drawn to them in my experience,I’m autistic myself, high functioning academically and generally with social and self care limitations along with other issues and dogs gravitate toward me in public,in shelters ,in family life etc. It happens with almost all animals, like they know something is off with my mannerisms but not in a threatening way and they react by being affectionate and trusting.
I'm autistic, and a nervous dog that I had not met before decided after one sniff to jump up on me and give me kisses. Like you said, I'm pretty sure they can tell.
i can attest to dogs insane ability to hide their pain. we didn’t know our dog had heart worms until it was too late, one day he was fine and the next he was in terrible shape. it was so startling, we’d gotten so used to his constant barking that his silence was genuinely unnerving
I have always wanted to be a vet and I live in Australia and Chris and Lisa are my role models and you guys have made me believe that I can make it I am not the smartest person and I have been doubted but I just keep trying because of you guys so thank you so much for everything
I live in Australia too! When I’m older, I want to look after pets, maybe even become a vet? And mostly breed animals. Mostly cats, snakes, dogs, I guess.
Dr Scott is an amazing person as well as a vet. He interacted with the young man in the wheelchair. And the Rottweiler is a beautiful animal. I miss my Rottweiler, she died about 16 years ago of cancer. If I lived in the UK I’d bring my animals to Dr. Scott for vet care.
I am always happy to see positive media about Rottweilers, all my friends could never understand that Rotties are such lovable goof balls. My Rottie died 2 years ago and I still cry about it. He would sit on my lap, he was damn heavy XD, and let me hug him. He never jumped out or moved away but sat there as I pet him. He did wonders for my anxiety, always happy and waiting for me to come play, even knocking on my bedroom window at times.
Hero wagging his tail when doc finger is in no man's land. Love labs they def the most hilarious dogs lol Wow cheetah cub is sooooo cute! I really hope that their plans for her work out!
Thanks to Dr Danni, Dr Scott, Dr Lisa, Dr Chris, Dr Gerraldo and Tim at Australia Reptile Park. Let's not forget the mobile veterinary twins who go about in their van, thanks to them as well. I know I have probably forgotten about half a dozen other people, sorry if I have forgotten your names but a big thank you to everyone who works to help the animals and also to everyone else who helps to make the Bondi Vet series possible.
Only someone who loves their dog would understand that having a yard completely re-landscaped by a professional landscaper is the most obvious solution if your dog has a tendency to play with and then swallow rocks. We have just been going through the process of buying a new house, and while we actually found several we loved, we decided against them mainly due to our dog and her needs. Even so, the house we did decide on had to have landscapers in as the first upgrade we did as a section of the backyard was terraced, and while not terribly hard on humans getting around it, our dog has had some issues with hind leg muscles and tendons and ligaments, so we thought leaping up and down fairly significant terraces could be a problem as did her vet. Not to deny her access to a part of the yard, we decided that the terraces had to go, and that section graded into a gentle incline prior to us moving in. While some people may think that extremely odd, those who have a dog who is a proper family member totally understand.
Unfortunately many dogs are bred irresponsibly and have issues like this ( I'm not saying your dog was bred irresponsibly , I don't know) the only way to get rid of this is to check out breeders and never buy dogs from pet stores (no reputable breeder would sell to a pet store) people should keep their breeding and pet dogs like we keep our breeders and pet, near us where they get attention, water always available, regular meals, and walked often. Unfortunately many breeders don't do this and keep their dogs outside with no attention, cheap (usually not very healthy) food, not enough food, water not constantly available, send the puppies away before they are 11 weeks old, don't care about what genetic deformities their dogs have and continue passing them on,and leave their dogs with no regular vet checkups to ensure healthy breeders and pups.
I can relate to Chris's battery comment. I remember seeing a snow leopard at the zoo for the first time. I couldn't believe I was looking at a real animal. Incredibly beautiful, majestic, and almost too perfect to be a live animal.
Poor dog mom though. I wonder if she was too young to have the litter or just couldn't cope in general with having puppies. It seems to have caused her a lot of stress.
Hm, maybe to many litters to cloose, very common among gready breeders sad to say! But cheewie gonna be fine and hope the breeder takes more puppies on that mamadog🙏
Maybe it was a stressful environment on either or both dogs for reasons the humans did not know about -- or a clash in temperaments. This could prove a caution to watch both dogs in future and head off trouble.
AAAAAA BABY CHEETAHS ARE SO CUTE! And they look like honey badgers, so when they curl up, no animal would want to mess with them, since many are scared of badgers.
Chewy is absolutely adorable! And like others have said, I love when their tails are kept (when possible). My favourite dogs (doberman) look so much better with their natural ears and tails!
I had no idea that Cheetahs are endangered. I so respect those that care for and help us protect our wildlife. If there wasn't a desire for the pelts, the poachers would not have a market for them! Thank you so much for doing what we, (most of us), can not do!!! Thank you!
cheetahs are not endangered because of poaching and though it is a part of why they remain endangered there populations are declining more so because they are probably one of the weakest of the big cats and get picked on by basically every other carnivore because they cant defend there kills from African wild dogs, hyenas, and lions aswell as habitat fragmentation and a generally weak constitution
@@Danielhuren Poaching and habitat loss has a been huge factor in their decline though..They do often suck against the other predators but to combat this often save hunting till times of day other predators are sleeping and when in an area no other predators are, they get by albeit a little close but us hunting them down has absolutely pushed them over the edge into endangerment.
Poor babyChewy. I'm so glad he's going to be okay. I hope if his Mom has any more babies they take them away so she doesn't hurt any others. OH how beautiful the baby Cheetah is. and calm, and loving. that face! ya just want to kiss her. I like seeing Elvis thanks
Reoccurring daydream of introducing my cat to the vets on this show so they can see what a good kittycat he is, I'm sure they would enjoy playing with him.
Wow, I never knew how weak the deathroll is on the axial plane in contrast to the lateral plane, Tim is actually able to pull the gator towards him by the rope during the deathroll.
This is awesome video. Glad Chewy passed a bill health. The cheetah 🐆 had a good car to the zoo and educate the public. Glad Hero passed the rock. Vet's are good what they do.
Chewy is the perfect pet for special need adult or child because they understand and love unconditional. Hero is an incredible and active Labrador. You can't tell he's so sick? He is so verbal and talkative?
I feel I should point out that not all verbal or non verbal people on the autistic spectrum are physically affected necessitating the use of a wheelchair. I suspect that this might be a separate disability. My eldest son who is now 51 is a high functioning autistic, who is a professional chef and perfectly capable of running his own life. Lee was non verbal until.the age of five, then he spoke in sentences. However like Daniel he has difficulties with social.interaction, which we as a family help him through. Our cat Sparky helps him a great deal and is non judgemental, so I'm glad that Daniel has the puppy to help him. Yes the family do deserve a break, it's not an easy life.
I'm so happy that all is well with Chewy, for his sake and the family as well. Rotties are often portrayed as such terrible dogs, usually they're such sweet animals.🐾🐾🐾💕🥰
Hero's antics worked Dr. Lisa over! Dragging her around, smooshing her hair everywhere. Lol. Thank goodness he was able to get that rock out with her help!
From an autistic person, animals are so important in my life. They don’t obsess over social cues like humans do, they’re pretty straight forward despite being unable to speak.
I love Elvis the croc. He's been on quite a few episodes. He's a handsome boy. Yep, he was happy with his meal, and gave a little burp too. (Jan Griffiths).
I use to have a golden Lab, who chewed thru our sky cable 3 times, then we found out that he had also started on the power cable, no matter how, we blocked each entrance to under the house, she always found a way in, her mother also had bitten her in the eye, so she was blind in that eye, she would totally ignore my husbands, commands, until I backed him up, she would just look at him; as if to say " who do you think you are ?"
My puppy got attacked by his own mother when he was a day old. Thankfully he didn't have any lasting health issues but his mother ate his brother alive and he was next. It's weird how mother dogs do that sometimes to their own kin
Yea it happens..normally it's horrible genetics, dogs with a temperament like that shouldn't be bred; once they turn on their pups it's time to stop breeding that one.
My cat beheaded one of her kittens and I had a huge trauma about why she did such atrocity. She had 6 babies killing one of them. It was her only pregnancy. I got her fixed after finding homes for the babies but I noticed she has not been the same after I got her fixed. She still look for her babies.
How the hell does the breeder not know what happened to Chewy? The mother and pups are under the breeders care which was obviously sorely lacking as it doesn’t seem that any medical help was sort when it happened if the breeder is so clueless.
Chewy Daniel are adorable and perfectly suited for each other both well loved 💜🙏💜 being disabled myself I loveeeeeeee my three Monsterdoglettes chi! Buddy and Bindi Piglets dad and daughter and my brain damaged shitz! Bennington the baby at four but looks like a puppy 💜🐕🐕🐕💜
Seeing the zookeepers petting the cheetah and training it to interact with visitors makes me very uncomfortable. I don't think people should interact with wild animals in that way. It's not good for them
