From the band name alone, you might expect Pura Manía to be from Mexico or Spain, but they are actually based out of Vancouver, Canada. The songs in this video are from two different 7"s that were released simultaneously. Pura Manía seems to incorporate a lot of influences. I'm able to hear hardcore, oi!, new wave, but the energy and hooks make them come across as a straight up punk band. Every song is well executed, and the raw, organic recording makes the band sound very lively. Still, there is also something anthemic about the songs. I love the guitar work, with songs like Sospechoso sounding a lot like "New Age" era Blitz. But the best part of Pura Manía is definitely the vocals. All sung in Spanish, the vocals are unique, but also melodic and catchy, full of personality, and easy to relate to.
