Purana Qila Excavations have Revealed Remains of Eight Periods including Early Historic Period 

Purana Qila (Old Fort) is a very interesting site in New Delhi because it is also the known site of city of Indraprastha mentioned in the Mahabharata. Excavations by Archeological survey of India (ASI) has revealed the remains of early historic period as well as seven other historical era including Sunga, Gupta, post Gupta, Rajput period, Sultanate and Mughals period. A few structures including a beautiful mosque and traditional Baoli (stepped well) was constructed by Sher Shah Sur. There is a structure 'Sher Mandal' in which Humaun fell down and died. The ruins of the walled fort with many gate's (Darwaja's) are magnificent.
