Except you and everyone else on the thread and title have spelled his name wrong!! There is no H in his name, it is spelled Townsend, not Townshend!! Just an FYI, since you all are huge fans, you might as well know how his name is spelled!! Cheers
Pete Townsend is the greatest composer of all time! A GENIUS. 100 years from now, people will go to concerts where they play Beethoven and Bach to warm up to play Townsend!
Pete described the note he heard as a breath being sighed away. I think he spent his whole life trying to capture that. It's worth remembering that he wrote this song in his early 20s but it's still deep and relevant.
I think that the version of "Pure and Easy" on Townshend's "Who Came First" album is sublime: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J9-IyAqsn9k.html
@@nat.serrano None of us would have ever heard of Townshend had Roger Daltrey not sung Pete's songs. Daltrey added power, swagger, and masculinity to Townshend's songs, most of which are - if we choose to be honest about it - introverted, insecure, and often wimpy.
Oh my God this is a great live version of this beautiful song and of course the unsurpassable Pete Townsend!! Lifelong Who fan and have never heard this version. Thank you!❤❤❤
@@lisadc4681 Except for Moon, many would be hard pressed to spell the Who members' names correctly: Daltrey often misspelled as Daltry, Pete's surname missing the H, which ends up in John's as Entwhistle.
It's been a pleasure to have grown and matured with this man. His music is anthemic despite his denials; it is the soundtrack of the baby boomers. And the music is so versatile. He could have played this on banjo, or he could have given Andy Fairweather Low leave to blow it out on his guitar solos. It would be great music either way.
As a young boy Pete was on a boat out at sea and he heard angelic choruses singing to him it was at this moment he new his immense gift for music and composition would come to pass! Pete is amazing a genius!
No matter what band or if Pete does a solo version of one of his songs it just sounds so fresh and different yet its the same songs I've been listening to for years. He is truely a Living Legend.
I was standing in the mud in front of the stage at Woodstock when the Who took the stage. Still today the sound of Peter's music makes all the other shit that happened to the world meaningless. Stay with us as long as you can.
Yea i was there with you two...i remember us vibe'n to these guys while a few hecklers kept screaming at us with vile..."Hey you guys...you 3 Stooges...sit down and roll around in the mud like the rest of us..."
Peter Anger I think I’ll be in mourning for months when he sheds his mortal coil....but, he’ll be happy, rocking in heaven with his pals John and Keith! I know I shouldn’t talk this way, but every now and then I do think about it. We’ll all end up there, of course! His music will live on for eternity, and every generation since he’s been born appreciates it now- imagine how future generations will, too! Thankfully, Rachel Fuller has orchestrated Quad- that was his intention- to have it transcribed so it could be played...like a symphony!
The vocalist's name is Chyna. With her is Billy Nichols (still touring with The Who in 2022) and actor/composer Cleveland Watkiss MBE, rounding out the talented trio.
My all time favorite Pete Townshend and Who song with the Song is Over a close second. A true genius at work. Long life to Mr. Windmill, mighty Pete Townshend.
A wonderfully arranged and flawlessly executed undertaking! My absolute favorite Townshend composition, and a song that speaks to the musician in each of us. If there is any magic in this world at all, surely it exists in music. Here's to all the music makers searching for that pure and easy note. Please take Pete's advice and keep it with you always... "Never spend your guitar or your pen.". Cheers!!! \m/ * * \m/
Why am I in tears?... "There once was a note, listen."... We all need to hear that note. I'm 58 years old and I'm just starting to hear it.God Bless Pete and Roger and all of The Who... You have know idea how much better my life has been listening to the noise you all make. God Bless...
From first hearing the cross fade into it on the end of The Song is Over from Who's Next, through the various versions, this is perhaps the most heartfelt, joyous sound I've ever heard (besides Beethoven's 9th ;) ). Pete said it was about life arising from a note. So right!
We all came from the First Vibration Note of Love that Pete helps us to remember in his music composition and lyrics echoing the same Source, "There once was a Note, Listen, Listen, Listen to the Love" Music is Life Dr. Darryl Pokea, Psychologist, Neuropsychologist, Musician..... "
Pete never upsets. She has a brautiful voice. Pete should have done vocals for the who i can say that now because of years of listening to great artists. No offense to Daltry fans.
this song touches you in the heart glad I had the pleasure of shaking hands with this genius il never ever stop listening to him got me through to many bad times to stop
Unbelievable to think that this didn't make it onto Who's Next being that it was part of the abandoned Lifehouse concept album. The opening bars are incredibly beautiful.
More cowbell! 😉 Seriously, though, this is a fantastic rendition of one of Pete's thoughtful songwriting. The arrangement is really brought to life by the talent on stage with Pete, and it's clear that he is genuinely enjoying himself with this performance. Just seeing him smile makes it worth watching!!! Greatest rock and roll songwriter PERIOD.
Thanks. I've loved this song since it came out on his first solo album when I was in college. I play and sing it regularly. I'm not sure I've ever heard a live version of it before.
Eric Beaulieu from a singer guitarist composer lyricist I’d say jeff Lynne, Lindsay buckingham might be the only comparable talent - not just quality but also in terms of sheer volume
