I've had this idea for a while and want to start doing a few of these with the right artists. Let me know what you like and don't like about this conceptually, your feedback is really appreciated as I hash out this idea and move forward with it.

Thanks! Let me know what you think of the concept and if the idea of sync’ing the wave file is dumb/annoying. I actually hear a pretty noticeable difference between RU-vid and the 192k file, not surprising in this case.

@@MillSounds I meant to ask, in this pure approach, does this apply to your mixing as well? In other words, minimal eq, compression, plugins etc? Are you trying to “mix at the source” or does all that remain the same and mix as usual?

I love you pioneering your own approach! I have always dug that you gravitate to the gear that works for you. So much “content” is just a backslapping party for the latest toys (most of us aren’t trying to make a living with our gear). What appeals to me is that your approach to tone capture and mixing seems to be an extension of your personality (shouldn’t it be?!), and therefore you have something unique to offer in a field that is increasingly monochromatic. I really wish Chicago was a bit closer; I would love to visit your space. Cheers!

worked for me. sync was tight, strumming, hats, etc. also, it's a revelation to hear this gorgeous sound. i'm listening in my own project studio on Adam A7xs with a sub. so good. i'd do this again...

i won't lie, i was momentarily in 'oh for crying out loud' - land, but you know, i trust you. and it worked out. i don't mind a reasonable amount of trouble, as Sam Spade says in The Maltese Falcon.@@MillSounds

Awesome idea! Great work. I’ve always enjoyed your content. I understand 24 bit (less noise). Can I ask why 192? Does your converter’s anti-aliasing filter sound better at that setting? The other differences should be inaudible when compared to 44.1 and above.

I don’t want to turn this idea into a sample rate “thing”. I’m just doing it because I can, and I don’t really have any experience working this high. It’s a good opportunity to try it for a while and see if I notice anything. More curious to see how plugins react, I’m not going to do much during mixing so differences might be more apparent. We’ll see!

Cool idea - I'm a drummer and do a lot of post mixing so even a tiny bit of sync issue drives me crazy - trying a bunch of times I got it really, really close but still not exact enough to not be irritating to me. Since we have to download files anyway, why not just marry it to the HQ video and let us download the whole thing? why get RU-vid involved at all?

That’s not a bad idea. I can’t do the full ProRes video, even 5 minutes or so would be close to 50 gb 😂. I’m also considering giving the artist a camera and letting them just shoot a bunch of random footage while they’re here to make the montage, instead of a music video style where I need to actually sync anything. Who knows, I’ve got a lot of crazy ideas…
