Did it get wet? Is the tank full of water? Is the tank on it's base? Is the AC adapter plugged in? If all are true, then press the button once.

If it still doesn't work, clean the base. It may be full of algae or calcium carbonate deposits. There's a little float that will switch off the entire device. If nothing else works, then the device could be defective.

I've been doing that! I use the vicks and the walmart brand, depending on what's available. I don't always get a choice when my children and/or wife are coughing and gagging. I put a few spoonful.

Even better if you can prevent its spread. They're coughing because the infection went from nose to throat and down further. It'll still run its course, but you can lessen its severity. So far, I try to keep them warm. But the school always takes them out even when its 32 F. Once they can't breath, I give them a little bit of "Afrin" in the nose. I know it says not to use it for small children, but they're crying and screaming, and just a tiny bit opens up their breathing. Also, it seems to lessen the severity of the infection. The infection is still there, but it seems they're not coughing. They get better without going thru the coughing. Whatever I'm doing, nobody is coughing the past two years. Or at least, not nearly as sever. I only remember my wife coughing a few times thru the night when sever. I used to cough so bad, I can't sleep. But with this combination, I rarely cough. You should ask your child's doctor first. I haven't found any side effects of "afrin" in children. But I would ask a doctor first. I went and did it anyway even though the doctor said to use salt water in the nose. Salt water does not work at all.

that one only blows cold steam. It's better that way. warm steam encourages germ growth.

+Kristina Gutierrez I just mixed it in with the water. The ultrasound creates small droplets of water that are then pushed out by a fan. So water directly exits the system unaltered. I mixed the medicine in the water, the medicine and the water surrounds the air in our bedroom. The medicine was prescribed by his doctor. He refuses to take the nebulizer. He fights and it usually takes two or three people to hold him down - he's only 2 years old. So the experience is bad for him. Putting it in the humidifier is very inefficient. But its better than nothing. He coughs less.

+Kristina Gutierrez If you don't like prescription medicine, you can use any mint to ease your child's cough. Works with dry coughs. But you would need a very strong dosage. Vicks oil works. 16% Menthol works.

Oh ok, that's where I was going to put it. It says not to put it in the water, to put it in the very top In the scent dispenser. But I'd rather it in the water. I have some Eucalyptus and peppermint oil that I'm going to try. Thanks so much for getting back to me. I hope this works well for your son ☺

The booklet specifically says not to add oils and it will void the warranty if you do.

That's just what I use it for beside humidifying my kids' noses. When they're coughing I put the vicks in the water. They also hate the nebulizer face mask thing in their faces. So I put the albuterol in there when needed. Obviously, its less effective than directly in their noses, but they are always fighting it until they get no medicine in at all.
