Puriclean In The Caravan Toilet Flush Tank

A couple of times a year when we Puriclean the fresh water system, we puriclean the toilet flush tank too. Not that we drink it, but lots of the pink rinse fluids create an algae build up that sits in the flush tank and can block up the pump system and the fragile pump impeller on electric flush units. By doing this a couple of times a year, the tank is kept fresh, clean, and no unsightly black bits every time you flush. We like to leave the flush tank Puriclean solution in for the same time as our main water system, around 7 hours, but up to 12 hours as like the fresh water system is totally fine. Also, if your motorhome or caravan has a combined system where as the flush water is taken directly from your main water system, when you run the solution through the taps before letting it sit as per a normal sterilsing regime, give the toilet flush a pump or two at the same time. Again, letting the Puriclean solution sit in the toilet flush system.

What a great tip, I did my water system last week didn’t even give the toilet flush tank a thought about needing cleaning. However my flush tank started leaking last week but that’s another story!!! Great the vlogs coming. 👍

Thanks for the kind comments folks! We didn't give it a second thought when we first Puricleaned the system, and then said "I wonder if" - and it worked! Finger's crossed you get the flush tank fixed, let us know how you got on, and how you did it 😀 Thanks for watching 👍 Mart & Jo

Cheers Lee. We let it sit for the same time as the fresh water systems' sat for and you want to see the black stuff that flushes out! Thanks for watching 😀

Top Tip. Wished We'd have seen it a few weeks ago before doing the 'complete' water system cleanout (all but the flush tank). This is now on the to-do list !! Pete & Kaz

After watching those gloopy black bits that look like baby slugs that came out of the flush tank we thought, "what if we used it on the flush tank" and it worked 😀 As sods law would have it though, when you come to take the pictures for a video, the blobs have gone and all you're left with is the final reminants of black bits. Thanks for watching!

Good idea Mart, I’ve never had black bits in the flush and to be honest I don’t know why. Used all kinds of different flush fluid over the years so I haven’t found a magic elixir to recommend. I only ever fill the tank on site arrival and always drain it down before leaving, so van is never stood with water in the tank. Take care guys.

Cheers Col. Sounds like you've got away with it! The longest its probably ever sat, is normal "on site time" between flushes but from time to time, get the little black blobs, like baby slugs! Maybe though, as you say, there's a little bit left in the tank in storage even after draining and creating the algae; good point! Thanks for watching 👍

Hi Mart & Jo. We have stopped using the Pink for this reason. It would be great to get an alternative that doesn't create black sludge in the tank. Thanks 👍🙂Phil

Great tip mate never even thought of doing that 😦 ,has someone else has said is there a alternative to the dreaded pink stuff that still smells nice ?steve

Cheers Steve! I've heard of a few people using a capful of Zoflora. Still smells nice and its antibacterial but no black bits and gunk. Just a capful though per tank of flush water. Thanks for watching pal 👍 Mart & Jo

I hadn’t thought of that. Do you find the pink chemical stuff turns into little blobs too? I think it’s necessary to thoroughly clean pink out of the flush tank if the van is standing for any length of time, so it doesn’t clog up the little pump. 😀 Trev
@ItchyFeetcaravanners
@ItchyFeetcaravanners 3 года назад
Absolutely Trev. They're the ones that we usually get! Like little black blobby bits of hard jelly. In good old RU-vid fashion, sods law, when I flushed to get a picture of them second time round, all I got was tiny black bits. Those little pumps don't look like they'd take much to clog up 😀 Cheers for watching mate.
