I'm 69. When I bought the "Are you experienced?" album the vinyl barely had time to cool down. (The answer to their question was yes). I saw them on their first American tour at Vet's Memorial Auditorium in Columbus Ohio. I expected to be as offended by this as I was by the Dion version. Instead, I think this is fantastic. They GET what he was doing musically with the song. I'm amazed.
Fantastic! I'm sure Jimi would have loved it! He was always looking for new ways to express himself and had projects with serious art music in his mind, which, unfortunately, he could not realize due to his early death.
I think the problem with a string ensemble covering this specific song is that the drumming in the original was some of the most spectacular, savage, and badass in rock music history. It takes some 🏀s to remove that underlying structure, though one of the members was playing a sort of “drum beat” at times. Despite this complaint, I feel it was a success overall. I love the tempo changes; one of the best bands of the ‘90s, Polvo, sped up and slowed down within their songs to great effect.
They got much better at this piece but if you don' t understand what Hendrix was doing you probably won't like this 2012 rendition either. Blues guitar--by the original electric blues guitarist--to violin takes some getting used to, perhaps. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QcAxJ1_8NBc.html
Hey, t'aurai pas les réponses, on doit comparer ce morceau avec le final du quatuor de l'empereur de Haydn :') et je t'avoue que musicalement je ne sais pas trop comment comparer...
+Keelah Sentry It's not a dirge, it's just a different but equally lively take on the original. Porsche saw fit to use it on TV ads for the 944 back in the day.
I am still unclear as to why people like this music. The dissonance is annoying. Everytime I give this quartet another chance to prove they really have music worth listening to, I am disappointed.
