U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Michelle Loftus, chief medical non-commissioned officer, 1st Cavalry Division, was 19 years old when she was injured in Kuwait. The injury serves as a constant reminder of the sacrifice she gave for her country.
“I think there are sacrifices that our everyday service members make that are not associated with going to war or being injured. It is the things that we miss with our families, it’s the time away, it’s the long, hard hours and things like that,” said Loftus. “If the nation and our civilian population were to understand that sacrifice, that is what it truly means to serve.”
