Ben and I traveled to Manhatten Kansas to participate in a friendly passage of arms celebrating our friend, Josh's 40th birthday! Was a blast and we were really honored to have attended :)

Absolutely loving your style and armoured community in the US! After success of BotN historically accurate armour and techniques went to decline, but you do show the world that real armour and real technique is relevant and brutal. Please don't stop! You will always have Russian's reenactment community love and support!

So for those that are curious, we didn't use axes or spears cuz they had broken in the first few bouts (sadly I wasn't filming by then). So we used swords and worked on pointwork (no murderstokes allowed). They had asked us not to do much of wrestling as the list was flimsy and didn't require structure for points, but being who we are we still added structure in those openings in harness, cuz that's what we do ;) Let us know what you liked about the video and if you'd like to see more of these in the future! -Reece

How come you specifically point out when there is no mail? Also, whats the scoring system look like if you don't mind me asking?
@pursuingtheknightlyarts6841
@pursuingtheknightlyarts6841 6 лет назад
Sorry, I just now saw this comment. The scoring system we do typically calls for strikes against mail be added with structure to compress between the rings and soft tissue. Since I didn't have mail a cut or thrust with no structure counted as a point. So, I felt it was worth noting. -Reece

this is how HEMA fights should be conducted. full armor and looking for openings.
@CoffeeSnep
@CoffeeSnep 5 лет назад
We always look for opening, and make them if they are not present. However most of us don't do armored combat because armor is expensive as Hell, and a pain in the ass to take care of. Our sources teach it, and some of us study it, but it's not easy to get enough guys together willing to spend a couple thousand dollars on a suit of armor to make a class. Personally, I need the money for college, so I stick to unarmored combat... for now.
@A_Moustached_Sock
@A_Moustached_Sock 3 года назад
Not only is that expensive but its also good to cover all of it. From no armor to light to heavy armor. Helps you be more well rounded in the long run. Also helps you know that no matter your armor rating, may god help you against the spear

At the end it seemed like Reece was tripped to the ground somewhat easily and I was wondering how much of a penalty the prosthetic posses to you? It also looked like the prosthetic was purposely targeted and I wondered how often opponents target it and how often they just pretend it's like a real leg and ignore it as if it were fully functional? I really enjoyed the point work. Too bad no video with the spears and axes. Your fights always seem so much more real than what is portrayed in M1 or Battle of the Nations. I love that you use historical techniques!

I'd especially love to see a video on the use of the pollaxe in formation. What techniques from the treatises do you think would work in that environment? Anyways keep the good content coming.

PursuingThe KnightlyArts Thx man, i'm tryung to put together a mid 15th cent italian kit, and have gone through a fair share of surviving armets of the period and i only ran into the typical "cavalry" armet, i havent seen this. I thought it could be maybe 16th cent(the shape does remind me of maximilian armor, but since i havent researched that far, better to ask and not guess). Anyway, thx for the reply, it does help, ill try to find it in artwork ;) Cheers!

I wonder why they didn't put the aventail under the breastplate to avoid stuff going underneath it ..reduced mobility maybe?
@pursuingtheknightlyarts6841
@pursuingtheknightlyarts6841 4 года назад
Historically, maille aventails and standards are pretty dense. So, two layers of protection was sufficient enough (up until the 1400's when you see them add reinforcement. ) if the maille aventail was underneath it would bind and prevent you from turning your head. Maille tends to "grip" things 😂-Reece

The first guy. Is the mail outside of the shoulder plates? Or is he not wearing shoulder plates? Armor newb here.
@ilikewasabe
@ilikewasabe 6 лет назад
And in armor its pretty evident that size and strength is a factor. Since there are very little gaps you can get through.. Never really been exposed to proper armor fighting but it pretty intimidating of i were just a lightly armored levi infatry and i see a full plate knight charging at me
@Albruit
@Albruit 6 лет назад
That would be Josh, and he left off his pauldrons for the day as he had a LOT of fighting ahead of him and they weigh a LOT and it was 90° out. Also, size isn't that big of a problem. I'm the shortest guy on that field and I have been. Able to throw all of the larger fighters. Speed and technique have far more to do with it.
