Purtis Creek State Park
With great bass fishing, Purtis Creek State Park is known as a ‘little Lake Fork.’ But that’s not all there is. Secluded campsites, a pleasant swimming beach, and guided canoe trips make this east Texas park the perfect place to bring the family.

I like these new videos showing all the lakes. It keeps me from having to drive 2 to 3 hrs and hoping it's a good lake. Good job guys!

This is an awesome lake. My dad an i went there once or twice a week for several years. He has since passed away and now i have my own boat and would love to go back and fish there, however Texas Parks and Wildlife makes it incredibly difficult to go now. You have to preregister on line and the.process is difficult to navigate and not user friendly at all. Then you MUST make reservations 24 hours in advance just to go fishing for the day! Not knowing weather or lake conditions or any other circumstance that might prevent a good day on the lake, you will not get a refund if weather changes or you must cancel. All in all you can't just have the FREEDOM to visit TAX FUNDED lake when you can and want to go. So sadly I will never fish this wonderful lake again. Horrible policy of Texas Parks and Wildlife to require the people who PAY for these places to treat them. Inexcusable. I hope no one pays to go anymore. Its ridiculous. They are literally putting themselves out of business like fools.

They put grass carp in it around 15 years ago. Completely DESTROYED the reservoir. Fishing hasn’t been the same since. TPWD did pull around a 14-15 pounder out of it with a gill net surveying two years ago.

@@samuelnallen123 i noticed that there was no vegetation in the lake and the fishing was definitely not what it used to be at all. We have gone back, fished all day, not even a bite. When my dad and i used to go we caught fish all the time. I asked the people at the gate what happened and they said it was stocked with grass carp because somehow lake plants are bad for the water. Which is not at all true. It has been destroyed by this careless act of putting in an invasive species. Now nothing is growing in it and i bet the fish have all died to oxygen depletion. I wish these so called "experts" would leave well enough alone and quit tampering with nature. Carp can breath air from the surface where game fish can not. Now they have a lake full of useless fish no one wants to fish for.

Sunday White Rabbit Yeah. I fished it once a few years after they stocked it with Grass Carp while there was still grass in it and caught 21 pounds of bass on 5 fish when I was 5 years old. It was awesome. I dont know why they decided aquatic vegetation, such as Hydrilla (which is invasive) hurts an ecosystem. Athens, Fork, Monticello, Welsh, and Fairfield are arguably the best fisheries in the State of Texas and EVERYONE of them has/had Hydrilla when they were at their peak of fishing. TPWD is great, but they made some crucial mistakes that cost them a few trophy lakes.

@@samuelnallen123 agreed! I like fishing hydrilla. I have caught a great number of bass in it. We will find another lake to go to. Fork isn't too far from here. We will learn it instead. What a shame. Purtis Creek was such a great lake.

Sunday White Rabbit It was. I would HIGHLY. and i mean HIGHLY recommend Athens or Fairfield. Fork is a great lake, but it gets so SO much pressure. Fairfield is an untouched lake full of 4-8 pound largemouth bass. It used to be a power plant but in recent years the plant closed down and there was a massive fish kill (mainly the red drum and tilapia, but a large number of people believe the bass were killed too), but I can assure you there are a TON of bass in there. One of my favorite lakes to fish. Athens is also an awesome fishery. You wanna catch fish, go throw a frog, fluke, or senko on Athens or Fairfield and you will run into a good number of fish, and there WILL be big ones.
