The instant lofi crunch of the cassette is extremely useful. The discmini and studio tape soud cleanest, but i love the drive on the vintage studio tape for a punchy beat
Not hitting the master compressor hard...might make a video on that one at a later point, thanks ;) Track level is at high but not distorting level...so it shouldn't have any special effect.
honestly they sound great! To my ears it only adds a tiny bit of distortion. Imo it sounds the best on the studio tape but honestly for all of them it just sounds like a really fat compressor. On the mini disc it sounds the worst.
How exactly did you achieve this? When i record my drums from the drum sampler I can never get that exclamation ⚠️ next to the input meter. I just commented on your recent video about Op1 not have distortion but this is clearly distortion hahaha 😅 I can never replicate this though as I do not know how to push the gain harder from the drum sampler.
You could turn the level of the slices within the drum sampler up first (red knob), then turn the gain on the tape up all the way. That should do the trick!
Do you able to use it to make music without the rest of the Teenage Engineering lineup but with other brands of stuffs, even you can, is that path worth it?
I think the OP-1 field either good on its own…or just as a simple synth, whenever you quickly need one. It can hold many presets, has a super long battery life and is nice and small. So yes, it can fit in any setup. AND you don't need any other teenage engineering stuff…BUT the OP-1 is peculiar and the workflow might not be for anybody. One thing to realize is, that if you can commit to recording to tape (and not being able to change things afterwards) then it's nice. If you are not happy to do that, look for a device with a good sequencer instead!
I see, but can you tell me how many type of device are there, in camera world, it's quite easy, just small or bigger, here in audio world, tracker, sampler, sequencer, ..., how many are there and what are the differences and how to choose? I thought they all just specialised modifiers but seem like you can play and record music on all of these, confusing!
Also, I read that OP-Z can connect to iPhone garageband and you can get more than 1 track there, this solve a lot limitation like the tape you mentioned and can just use as keyboard for the DAW? Why don't one just use DAW like Logic Pro and the laptop keyboard as input then? DirtyWave M8 Tracker is basically the same with few keyboard key inputs isn't it?
