Expectation on salary should be based on experience and output and professional capabilities, Expectation in a job should be higher than your previous that's if you were previously in a job.
I THINK A JOB SEEKER NEEDS TO RESPOND BEFORE SUCH A QUESTION. BUT THE PROBLEM IS THE WAY HE PRESENTS IT AND HOW THE INTERVIEWER PERCEIVES IT. GOING BY THE STANDARD OF MY QUALIFICATIONS, NATURE OF THE COMPANY AND SERVICE EXPECTED OF ME TO RENDER COUPLED WITH THE LEVEL OF COMPETITIVE NATURE OF THE LABOR MARKET, I WILL EXPECT MY SALARY TO START FROM #150,000 UPWARD. THE REASON IS TO BE ABLE TO DELIVER EFFECTIVE SERVICE TOWARD ACHIEVING THE GOALS OF THE INSTITUTION.
If I am ask about my salary expectation, my answer will be, I believe the Organisation have a scale of salary for the position they want to employ me for, also i will give a range the minimum i can collect base on my Qualification and the expect output from the position.
I will make the interviewer to understand the fact that the organisation has a salary scale for it staff and I will be confortable based on where my abilities, skills and experience fit in. When pressed further to name a specific amount. I will give a range of values based on the transport, cost of living and economic situation of the job area.
IN OTHER TO DETERMINE MY EXPECTED SALARY, I HAVE TO CONSIDER A RANGE BETWEEN THE LOW END(IS THE JOB PERFECT FOR ME) AND THE HIGH END(AM I PERFECT FOR THE JOB).... AND ALSO THERE ARE A LOT OF VARIABLES TO CONSIDER, SO I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH DATA YET,. I BELIEVE IF WE SEE EYE TO EYE MONEY WON'T BE AN ISSUE BUT I WON'T SEEK HIGHER THAN "MARKET RATE".
I will have done my research on the amount of salary a person in that position should earn so i will give them a figure i.e Ksh 50,000 negotiable,negotiable giving room for a discussion
