Man ,you are one of the best fabricator out there, that’s one hell of a job you you guys did .And the owner of this vehicle had great ideas ,you guys worked as a team and made magic on this vehicle , Wow .
The best auto body man on planet Earth. Gene Winfield. I 1st saw him on Monster Garage building a sectioned Caddy with a Carson Top. He leaded the cars body. I was beyond impressed!!! 96 years old? 7 years older than my Mom. The man is a legend walking!!! Aloha Gene, Mama Leigh
Looks great. I still have my Deora Hotwheel to this day. So I would have selected a metallic copper for the paint, but that's just me. The suicide doors are perfect.
This show demonstrates a level of creativity beyond what you usually get, not just installing new parts, but making them and in fast practical approach on a entire budget that most people can relate to. Icandigit.
I am making a small two seat speedster that looks like the sports car that Packard never made. It takes so much time to get “right”. I wish there was money to hire great people to help create a great and very interesting design. The biggest challenge is to keep going. Some days are hard and others just fly by.
This truck turned out great! Really dig it, and the 'cab over' feel these have is still right there, and that's the fundamental charm/interest in these bodies for me. I really would like to mention though that, the general amicability of you and your customer and fellow there is extremely refreshing, and that this genial discussion and banter made this video very watchable!
This was one interesting video. Start to finish, what wonderful ideas. A work of art, as stated. Only trouble I had with the video is way to many commercials to interrupt watching it. I watch different builders and I am always amazed at how they build their projects in different ways, but always end up with that finished work of art.
I agree the front grill is not right and to much black around window looks like batman and Robin mask and the tanu cover should be in three pieces and the engine compartment should have two fire walls front and rear. And no turn signals or wipers or horn or seat belts? Safety no plates?
The Truck is superb, the paint is beautiful & the Black fade just finishes it off 👍👍👍Gene Winfield is a legend who still put's in a Day's creative work is outstanding 👍👍👍
Wow, it's fantastic, I agree the paint needed something more but I think the color choice was spot on, staying away from the usual hotrod colors really makes it stand out from the crowd,, beautiful work
Ian is the best out there, the other guys have big money, , top of the line tools, computers, CNC, television crews and then a hired hidden crew. Ian is the man.
Frenching is the act of recessing or moulding a headlight, taillight, antenna or number plate into a car body to give a smoother look to the vehicle. The name originates from the end result looking like a French cuff of a shirt sleeve, which has a ridge at the end.
The shape of the truck looks fantastic. However not a fan of the color or wheels, but not my car. I don't like too much metal fleck because it reminds me of a 60-70's carnival ride or 70's dune buggy especially gold metal fleck. No Thanks It's cheesy/tacky Don't like the steering chain right below the break pedal making it likely your foot will hit the chain. Not safe at all.
If I could suggest, How about selecting a steering wheel from a early Ford thunderbird (1961) where the wheel pushed over to the passenger side for ease of entry?
Don't think this channel actually have any ties to Ian? As its based in the UK So unfortunately I don't believe any of the great comments everyone is leaving for him about his amazing custom work ever gets to him. So don't waste your time.
Great episode - But, it is an Old Ford Falcon ... NOT a "Classic" car - by any stretch. Duesenbergs are CLASSICS - Falcons are Collector Cars to a very few People at BEST. I love Falcons , but, calling them Classic is much worse than calling a California Bubbly a "Champagne"
On the color, he claims, "you see this color every day on new cars..." What? New cars are black, silver white and black and silver and white.......once in a while a blue or red car, but orange, nope, you don't see it every day at all
Wow I really enjoyed watching this episode ,you are an awesome fabricator and that Econoline sure brought back a lot of memories ,My father bought a 64 mercury Econoline from a car lot when I was a kid parents never could afford a new vehicle . But the embarrassing part about it was on the back doors it said Dapps bread eat the best forget the rest, until he painted it with a roller lol the good old days
This unique truck should have no paint! Order some very unique racing car stickers from the 60´s, buy some green colored windows and install a sun protection shield on the front window! Finally spend him yellow colored head light glasses and use deep bed rims with slick tires. The cockpit have to be a mix of blank metal and black seats & floor! I GIVE YOU MY WORD THAT THIS COMBINATION WILL IMPRESSED THE PEOPLES! SUCH A TRUCK HAVE TO LOOK LIKE READY TO FIGHT AND REDUCING IT AS THE LAST OF HIS OWN!!!!
That black fade in the paint is just what it needed. Only thing I would change is those headlights, go with some HID projectors, maybe black housings. On my personal vehicles, I gotta have good lighting for any night driving.
Very cool build gentlemen. I really like the somewhat shortened format. On Tv it would have been a multiple episode show. My Grandpa had a mid engine/ cab over front ( IDK wha to call it) that he could tow cars with. It was so cool with the side tailgates. I love any and all of these things. Very Cool!!!
IAN....IM"70YRS.OLD...BEEN NUILDING/DESIGNING RODS SINCE '70's...Your name should be up there with GEORGE BARRIS!! YOU THINKING ON YOUR FEET IS GREAT TO WATCH...GENIOUS !!!
You are the man.....with your vision.......I wish I could help you on a build or 10......I have vision NOT as good as yours by far......your the skipper ......and I'll be the sillyginn...not all dreams come true....thanks ian
I've worked with a few old guys like that. While he's not lookin' you work fast, work long, get as much done as possible, so maybe he won't change anything. Some folks think too much and, especially now that I'm an old guy, I know old guys just have to overthink things and mess with a plan. At least he's more patient than I was with some of the old guys I worked with.
The name "Frenched tail-lights" (with an "ED", not "French tail-lights", but "FrenchED") comes from "French cuffs" on shirts, that were popular around ww2, when this technique was first used. French cuffs are folded over, so you don't see any hem, similar to how Frenched tail-lights (or headlights, or whatever) show no trim, and it looks like the bodywork is "folded", to expose the light.
What ever happened to "If you are happy, I'm happy"? I appreciate the artistic mind. I really do. and you are free to do anything you want to do on your own "canvas" Gene was working on his own vehicle (his blue Econoline witch i will point out was not a heavy metallic and looked fantastic) not a costumers... Jacks vision is what you need to understand. ...even when you think you have a "better" idea. At that point its only a difference of opinion and the guy handing you the money is the only opinion that counts! It really bugged me that you were repeatedly badgering Jack to change his mind about the paint color/scheme and eventually wore him down... . His inspiration, his vision is what you are contracted create. PERIOD. @34:14 you said, I'm going to keep going until "I am happy with it" OMG ITS NOT YOUR CAR You need to understand that... That's not a debatable point. NO He did NOT agree, you coerced him and he finally gave up. Personally, I agree with Jack ... At least it does not look like a 1977 ski boat! (BTW I hope you got rid of the orange peel)
When the German VW BEETLE was still built by hand in Wolfsburg, the mechanics had a trick to perfect the gaps in the doors: they soldered the installed door and then cut it out with a special knife, which meant that all the gaps were perfect!
The wheels aren't doing it justice.Ok wide wheels with custom deep dish chrome mags..At least some ghost flames on chameleon blue purple paint.Make a 1/18 diecast of it as well as t shirts..
Great overall but that mesh grill on the front needs to be something else. It sort of cheapens the look. Horizontal black louvers to show 2in-3in of teeth while being 4in-5in tall to allow for overlap and hide the space open space underneath yet provide airflow. Mount them as convex vanes to keep the more blunt look or maybe concave but as s-curves to maximize airflow efficiency if (that matters and) they've put a rad or intake behind any of it.
No, should of kept that body line That's what makes it distinctive. Oh, well, I'm not the builder, I'm not the creator. I'm just a stupid detailer what do I know😂
And I have a 1939 GMC half ton what would it take to fully customize I've done a lot of work on it but I can't finish the project I'm going blind play female maybe we can I like to talk to you and see what it would take to get my truck running
I kinda hate I know a bit too much about cars and paint. Seeing all that Orange peel really bothers me. Plus I got OCD. Needed a whole lot of wet sanding before putting that clear on. You can call it a 10 foot paint job.
Yeah, I told Uncle Jack we're sitting at old time Burger and I said. Put some metal flake in it! Put some metal flake in it.! We Argued a good 40 minutes about the metal flake.😮😅
You should show to these idiots in EU parliament how to enjoy of cars and force them to do something creative, not to creatively banned custom cars, beacose this is what they do. Good, great, awesome job!!!
I have to agree with Jack on the flake. I think metal flake belongs on bass boats and dune buggies and that's about it. Maybe as an accent on a car but not covering the whole car. I could be persuaded to think differently on the right project but I haven't seen a flake car that I really like.
I always called, much to the chagrin of the service writers in the service vended that I was a tech at, the ford tuna. Yes, it looked like a catfish, but they are both fish. 🤷♂️
Awesome truck but those tail lights just don’t do it for me. Need a set from a Porsche 924 taillights or something along those lines to match the headlights.
Super cool little ride, but man... that paint. Not a fan of that layout at all. Needs to be more Latin inspired. A lot of bling, etc... It would have really created a great palate for a ton of design elements, and broken up those flat sides.
Все здорово, машина, идея, реализация. Но это авто на один раз, до первого лобового столкновения. Лучьше на выставку и под замок для красоты, не для поездок. Жизнь коротка, делать еще ее короче не стоит.
the only thing id ever change is 3 things, headlights.. id switch to more modern bulbs, the wheels do not go well with the car, and last- id ad a thin black paint line from front end to mid door, and one a little higher from rear to back of door.. so that they never touch but gives more contour to the side, making it look less flat.
Im always here if you wanted me to draw concept art of any of the stages. because this truck was looking excellent but the colour is a little too subtle
When you live in, the boonies and no one's there around to bug you and ask you all kinds of questions and whatever you have all the time in the world to get things done.
