In the September 23, 2020 throne speech - responding to the disproportionate levels of poverty amongst folks with disabilities, the governing party promised "a Canada Disability Benefit modelled after the Guaranteed Income Supplement".
In the time since - from limiting the benefit to just $200 per month to limiting it to just those who can access the incredibly burdensome Disability Tax Credit - we’ve seen them move further and further away from that promise at every significant step.
On the four-year anniversary of that promise, Mike takes the opportunity to push the governing party to follow-through and fix the CDB.

THEY need to eliminate the disability tax credit for approval if your already collecting disability you should qualify automatically THANKS for your hard work Mike

as an ODSP recipient I am not sure I fully agree with that statement, but I thank you for your support if you are an ally and not a recipient.

Mike has included this in his recommendations - pushing for back pay to the date the Canada Disability Act received royal assent in June 2023. Find it here: mikemorricemp.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Minister-Khera-Proposed-CDB-Regulations-submission-September-2024.pdf - Kyra

Mike you are doing an amazing job my friend. Make sure the NDP pushes the Liberals to make changes to the CDB through the regulations. I know you and the greens will push for changes.

Thanks, but as an ODSP recipient I don't think more money in our pockets is the only solution. We also need better housing laws, and more RGI housing.

Hi! Mike agrees that addressing the rising cost of living - including the cost and availability of housing - is essential. Check out our 'Prosperity for All' or 'Housing Affordability' playlists for more of Mike's work on this. - Kyra
