Cutting out the cork gaskets for the sight glasses on Pearl with my WAZER water jetting machine. WAZER sponsored some of my purchase price and I'm sharing how I use it in the shop, on real projects at hand with you.

I find it fascinating that you find the sound of steppers soothing. To me they sound slightly angry, but then I work with computers and just register the 'digital' part of the noise. I am planning to install a stepper to drive the lead screw on my lathe though, maybe the sound of them will grow on me after a few years :)

The Wazer unit is a very handy unit, $12,000 in Oz due to the difference in $ exchange rate. Was the cork natural or rubberised cork I have found rubberised cork is best less wicking, it does looked rubberised. Great Lisa & you getting away ,come back refreshed again ready to machine big pieces of steel into little bits😀

Yes, better chemical and heat when rubber base cork.

Keith, check out flush cut diagnol cutters at Mcmaster, two sizes, for plastic sprues, not to be used on any metal.

Keith, you have been very thorough with what you have shown of the machine so far. I wonder if you can notch tubing in it like the laser tubing cutters can do? Then that makes me curious if you could make some kind of knurling pattern nobody has ever seen before with one, like for instance, engine turning knurling. Sometimes I have weird questions. Hope y'all are doing well and enjoyed your vacation. Thanks for the videos.

You don't know how lucky you are that the software recognises where to turn the water on and off. Twenty years ago I was using a 56000psi machine and you did the drawing in Autocad then loaded it into the machine and had to go through line by line writing pause, water on, water off in order to go from a cut to the next cut.

I guess I'm missing something here. Why not just replace the cork gaskets with Viton O-rings? Waldes is one manufacturer I've dealt with years ago. Their "O-Packs" come in every size my customers ever needed. Measure I.D. O.D. and thickness and you're done. Or is it just the challenge of making them? I can dig that! 😁

you would think you could cut the cork by water pressure alone with no grit, as any grit stuck in the cork maybe leach out into the gear oil, which is not a good idea
@DrewDiaz
@DrewDiaz Год назад
So I’m thinking, which is painful, these are gaskets for oil level sight glasses and there is grit imbedded in the cork? Grit that cuts metal?
@KeithFenner
@KeithFenner Год назад
LOL I was concerned about that, but after having cut the test pieces and also dealing with the pink garnet material, I see no evidence of garnet embedded into the cork material. Elastic type materials seems to bounce off just like rubber sheeting.
@rl3898
@rl3898 Год назад
A valid point, that garnet dust gets everywhere.

Keith, would be interested to know that the base material is on the Wazer ie the fixing bed and why it doesn’t get distroyed
@KeithFenner

It does get destroyed eventually, and I just flipped it for the first time. It is a plastic extruded type shape.

I think a wittle Wazering goes a wong way. Oops, I mean a little Wazering goes a long way. I think it's pretty boring to watch for very long. On a more positive note. Does the cork get impregnated with the media? Can you lower the water level so the bubbles don't move the thin cork all around? Thanks for showing us what you do. God bless you!
@jimhunt5259

Cutting thin cork sheet on a waterjet looks like using the third best tool because you don't have the other two
@youpattube1
@youpattube1 Год назад
It seems unbelievably slow. How come you didn't do a speed test? Up the speed by 5, then 10, and see if it is still cutting fine.
