I love the symbolism of Olivia standing on the tree stump making herself taller. It shows to me anyway that fitz is looking up to her for guidance and being strong for him when he’s at his lowest
This is one of my favorite scenes because it quiets the fans who say "Fitz only wants Olivia for the $*x." This scene is true intimacy between a man and woman; it takes trust to break down to that vulnerable state with someone. If their relationship were only superficial, this scene would have never happened.
I absolutely agree with you on all the points you made. Certain people have a vested interest in trying to convince the audience that Fitz is only interested in $ex with Olivia but he's proven time and again that Olivia is the love of his life and that he can't be without her love either.
He can get sex from any woman hell he is the perfect package and he's the most powerful man in the world as president. He's pining over one woman all these years has to be more than just sex. Because he's married they feel like he can't be in love with another woman. When you are in a loveless marriage it's easy to fall in love with someone else. Mellie has made it easy for Olitz to be together but when she sees that her livelihood is threatened or her future that's when she wants to act like a scorned wife who wants her husband to stop cheating on her.
Don't throw tomatoes at me, but I think part of why people said that was bc they can't imagine a white president genuinely loving a black woman. Black women are more often sexualized by white men. But hardly ever in love or truly intimate. At least that's what the stereotype is. Personally, I think there's truth to it, but not 100% of the time. And this is an example of this. Fictional, but still plausible and believable.
That was a beautiful scene. I loved the blocking .....when she stood on top of the stump that made her not only taller but vulunerabile so that he could be.....she provided emotional safety for him to release his feelings regarding his fathers death. Great scene
@Nicole right and that’s juxtaposed with the wood chopping as a potent show of masculine power, yet she holds his hand and looks him in the eye and gives him the time and comfort he needs to unfold
I love this scene. Of all the people around him, only Olivia cared enough to check on him & make sure he was okay. I love how he just fell into her arms & started crying. She is the only one who he could be open with & truly let go. He just lost his father & as much as they had their ups & downs, I'm sure it still hurts. This is a true show of Olivia & Fitz love because she knows him. She knows that he just needed someone to be there for him & that's what she did. She was just there.
This is another reason why I can’t stand when people pity Mellie & Fitz’s relationship. Even if they were somewhat amicable, Mellie should’ve known how this would effect him and been a “good wife” enough to check on him-what he actually needed rather than internalizing his grief.
@@jaminwaite3867 True but Mellie is still walking around and thinking about the rape that she had to survive at the hands of his father. Making her have to question if it was Fritz’s or his fathers. Yuck 🤢
Looking back on it, this is one of the scenes that fueled Liv's complicity with Defiance. Her intense understanding of his complicated emotions about himself and his father drove her to blur the lines between what would help him politically and what would help him emotionally. She truly was trying to FIX him but in the way someone does when they let their desire for their loved one to succeed and be happy in life over rule their responsibility to be honest with them. Her love is very honorable toward him but the fixer in her got it twisted up. She is so soft and sensual and understanding toward him here. That's the essence of a woman being in love with a man.
Candace Le Anne Barbara Raye coop4olitz dayle 2u ericad29 Lion Den hope27able Nathalie FROM FRANCE ***** Maria Johnson ThatLadyDray TstormVA2012 I think the comment above was very well said.
HenRhee Higginz I loved how Liv reaches out to Fitz and how Fitz falls into her arms and let the real him come out..thanks for the clip..this is one of many reasons I watch the show.
That's why he's so sympathetic towards Eli Pope too later cause of her dysfunctional relationship with her father. On some level Fitz tries to protect Olivia from her dad since he still living. Can you imagine if Rowan would have died? All those times Jake Huck and even Olivia tried to kill him? Can you imagine the person Olivia would've turned out to be
Intimacy is when you can show someone your most vulnerable face and still except them for who they are and this was displayed here. Even tho Fitz says how much he hated his father there was a lose there for him and he wanted his father to except him for who he was and Liv gave him that understanding comfort that he seek. I love the unspoken words between these two!
This scene just shreds my heart. These 2 are just, there are no words. They don't even have to be intimate for you to feel the love these 2 have for each other. The way he caresses her hand, the way she say's "come here" and holds him to her bosom. His crying is just so real. This is the OLITZ I'm ready to see again.
ericad29 Barbara Raye Caught Up coop4olitz dayle 2u Fatima Sy Genesis Alexander hope27able Lion Den ***** Maria Johnson Nathalie FROM FRANCE Nadine Trass SaneSophisticated Sassy ThatLadyDray TstormVA2012 *This is the mess that made her take another step in the direction of acts that went against her core... things boomeranged to hurt them both.* An interesting observation, Cy paid by losing James, Verna ...: Liv & Fitz their core & their dream deferred. (We don't know about Hollis.) Now how has Mellie paid for Defiance? That she had to have Teddy? *Because other than that, Mellie's life is no different than it was before... Secrets, lies, pretending stuff is real & basking in a marriage for power & fame with a man she didn't authentically love or love her ... Business as usual for Mellie Grant.* Thoughts?
HenRhee Higginz Sorry had to spend some time with my Boo he's in the shower and no it not what you think that will come later..lol but you are right it has always been business with Mellie always seeking fame and power I feel the only reason she wanted Fitz in the WH was for him to lay the roadway for her Mellie has always wanted to be POTUS that was and still is her dream what do you think?
Barbara Raye Fitz is in the shower at your place? Don't let ThatLadyDray dayle 2u Genesis Alexander & ericad29 know. I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed. I'm lying low.
Barbara Raye Mellie's first desire for power was as Flotus (E106) her Dolly Madison dream. She thought by being Fitz's Fluffer (like when she used to channel Big Gerry's ideas to Fitz as her own) she'd get to run the world without really having the responsibility for any mistakes - like what Bitsy did for her ADD Potus husband. *It's why when Olivia wasn't in the picture any more, advising Fitz (E213 - E217), she & Cyrus were at war in competing to control Their Garden/Fitz.* However, as we all know Mellie isn't capable that way & once Olivia & Fitz were a team there was no way she was going to get to even try her hand at advising him. That is why (E201) in the televised America's Baby gender reveal Mellie decided to high-jack Fitz's political agenda even when she didn't have access to the data. As you recall that ploy resulted in her being told the truth - that she was ornamental not functional. Mellie would have been totally fine being the power behind the throne if the man in the throne kept telling everyone that the real dynamo is his wife. *BUT* that wasn't her political marriage reality & she also had no skills at crafting her own political legacy - which meant she stayed with the soft issues that bored her & didn't give a public persona as an independently brilliant political power house. Noteworthy though is that while raging at Fitz to give her a war to run or the CIA - whenever she took an issue to showcase her skills she always felt a speech was the way to be a politician (the honeymooning wife who accidentally killed her husband (E403), WWW speech on campaign trail (E316), Kashwari kidnappings (E215). In Mellie's wisdom she conceded to the deal where she gave up her job to be the Mellie version of The Good Wife, she hasn't worked in law or politics for 10 years, before the WH. Additionally she never once ran or worked in a committee to try to pass a bill like Hillary Clinton did as Flotus; & Hillary had a political & law career right up to Bill being the Dem primary winner. In Mellie's fantasies,*Flotus as a power platform fulfilled the fame she wanted, & would give her a hand on the till of world power & fame she craved without having to be accountable. Remember Mellie doesn't do accountability or culpability. She does, however feel FLotus is like being the next in line as the Leader of the Free World* - just see how arrogantly she told Mr. Damascus Bainbridge: "I am the First Lady of the US!" *She totally expected that empty power TITLE to make him quiver & run. But since the truth is that ALL Mellie's independent power moves blow up disastrously, OR she gets others more skilled to do the actual work to net her desired result - Rowan knew who he was dealing with wasn't anywhere close to his daughter (he SO poked fun at her with that line). LOL* Mellie started to float her 'goal' as an independent politician based on thinking that Fitz is nothing to her spectacular brilliance; surrounding herself with sycophants who pad her ego; *AND being in direct competition with Olivia - who does run shit!* Olivia is someone who she tries to best at every turn & well... fails. The first time she aired that little nugget about being Potus, it was because Fitz wouldn't get over Liv, & she threatened to blow him up. She only threatened 'her bright, bright political future' in retaliation because in her opinion, he clearly was a once around the ballroom kind of Potus - as she'd make it so if he tried to divorce her. *And as honesty is NOT in Mellie's make-up, she won't be able to admit that EVERY BIT OF HER CLIMB TO THE WH WAS FACILITATED BY OTHERS ... starting with Big Gerry secret plot to get her married to Fitz, Cy's training for the political wife image, & Olivia saving her azz time after time after time, etc. None of Mellie's brain power has gotten her where she is - it's her looks, breeding & acting skills.* I hope that SR will not write Mellie getting to be Potus because while G. W Bush did it by being puppeted by a strong (but corrupt) VP - I think it would be a horrible message to send in our *RL political climate where a highly qualified, self-generated political resume & accomplished former Flotus is running for Potus.* Mellie only wants to be Potus now because it's the only way keep a fame spotlight on her. Her self worth is gotten from others' worshipping her...& she knows that will not come from the idealistic, optimistic, romantic, honorable man who she doesn't respect anyway - she lost his regard when she showed him who she truly was long before Olivia was in the picture.
HenRhee Higginz Baby girl so sorry to hear about your discomfort I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and it was not a good time for they didn't put me to sleep they just numb my mouth.. will hope you will be back to yourself in no time.. as for fitz being in my shower I told him not to use all the hot water because he'll be back in there in a few hours after I drink my wine and he his Scotch.... and the band played on......
Jake was never the endgame. He was brought in to test Olitz love and it didn't succeed. True love are the first to be tested and these two have had so many tests but they passed every time till the end
As a man, it’s okay to cry even when hard times happen. I sometimes am like Fitz. Punching walls, hammering something and even just hurrying. I look at this to remind me to just cry and let it out to someone who truly cares for you.
Great and very touching scene,… Fitz crying was a shatter to my heart; and so glad he had Olivia for support and comfort and equally important that Olivia could influence him to let go, let his real feelings out.
I feel like the hairs have a pretty short cycle bc sometimes he has a little but of eyebrows but they get hidden with his deep-set eyes. But yeah, he’s always had them like that yet still manages to look that good 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
watching these old clips of Fitz and Olivia makes me realize. How easy it really is to be vulnerable, or to allow someone you care deeply for to be vulnerable in your presence. I love the way they love each other.....it's so fierce that it leaves me wanting to know what happens next. watching these clips...I picture myself and her position, I wonder how does it feels to be touch the same way.
No. Even the writers hadn’t decided that at this point, so it’s still fair to say that she wasn’t being there for Fitz like the “good wife” image she touts.
It takes a lot of courage for a man to cry infront of his ladylove ..but fitz really trusted liv considering his feelings ❤😎😍😘😘😘 ..what a lovely swinging hips 😄
This really moved me! To see a man cry is something you never forget. It takes a very strong man to allow himself to be vulnerable. This was a acting scene, but man did it feel so real!
I'm always uneasy with this kind of love affairs. I don't know if i'm for or against the propagonists. You don't know if it's really an irresistable love that transcends morals, or if what u see is just a passion fuled by the forbidden. I hate it when 'love' is the excuse for wrongdoing, for unfaithfulness. It's the ''fate'' card cheater and liars and manipulatives use.
It’s a shame. I have a narcissistic mother and although I’ve rid my life of her, I know I’ll have the same feelings as Fitz here, if I ever hear of her passing.😩😢
Wow oh wow!!! I often wonder how much of the TV show Scandal is fiction or non fiction. Life vs Art intermingled. TG has a real history book in his head & his story telling is what he's paid 2 portray. I would love 2 read an unfiltered biography of his life. But I'm not at all confident that it willl ever come 2 fruition. 2 many secrets, 2 many love 1's 2 protect, 2 many embellishments & 2 many non disclosure agmts IMO
Apple Lynch I hear dry burgers and dead bodies. No sense. This here is a display of companionship, partnership, name it. To have someone that can notice how one of eyebrows has fallen
The thing is how she know where he was at like that wife material and Mellie his own wife didn’t even check in on him that’s crazy this shows you how much Olivia loves Fitz and cares for him ❤❤
I understand the dislike Mellie had for Big Jerry but where was she when Fitz was dealing with BJs death? He needed consoling. But the love of his life was there for him. Yes Mellie. The love of his life, his consoler.
i love how she can demand him, awwww so much with love though, he listens to her, i wish they were real, his crying, omg broke my heart, millie is rough, liv is tender, soft like a women should be, he sees and feels her love for him, it's tender, yes she can yell at him, but does not matter, one thing i wont give you, i wont let yo go, omggggg, liv look at me, there you are hi, i melt.
MR PRESIDENT PLEASE REMEMBER TO LEARN THE ART TO EXPRESS YOUR EMOTIONS. EXPRESSING YOUR EMOTIONS DOEST MAKE YOU WEAK IT MAKES REAL. LOVE FROM A BEAUTIFUL TIMELESS BELLISSIMA LADY FULL OF CLASS AND ELEGANCE AND GRACE ❣️❤️ MANY THANKS ❣️👍❤️👌🏼❣️
She should have told him to turn the ax upside down when it was stuck in the limb. It was not the first time that man had seen an ax. He knew his way around the woodpile.
Let's talk. She was going to tell him about their (Hollis', Cyrus', Verna's and Mellie's) determination to rig the election for an un-clean win. She was going to be his partner and not theirs as he wanted them to be, and thought they were (*219 hospital scene*) ... And then he was broken by the news of Big Gerry's death, - by the fact that he would never get to show his dad he was not a failure and he could do something that (his father) Big Gerry thought and predicted he couldn't do on his own, without corruption. *That's how Livvie lost the key to her mind, and with her bleeding heart and a tortured soul tried to fix his pain, band-aid his pain with a cheated win.* *When she was crying on the floor, that was love; that was not control. My babies ... so drunk in love!*
Realistic Optimist Kristi Bradford Camille Cooper Agreed. She so was going to out the cabal and their nasty plans to Fitz; then because of the news and the tailspin it put him in; she didn't. I'm guessing they discussed all of this in Vermont - because they have re-set their commitment and don't let even Jake trying to shame and out her (317) in Fitz's presence between them planning their life together.
Kristi Bradford coop4olitz SaneSophisticated Sassy I actually think Rowan will only come between them if Olivia lets that be so - from the last scene in 318 it didn't look like Fitz had changed in his love, dedication and devotion. But we will see. BTW, in leaked pictures from shooting 401 Liv was wearing the same close we saw her wearing to board the plan with the Snake ... so I'm not sure about a new hairstyle and such.
I love this scene, but I have seen it so much, I notice the small things. Like, right after Fitz fails to chop that last lot, he is standing too far from the stump when they flip the view point to Olivia stepping on the stump. A minor continuation issue.
I like this scene too. In order to truly comfort him because of the height difference she needed to stand on the stump in order to hold him to her breast.
Shhhhh....why,i only give you space so i won't disturb your solitude ,fitz really trusted liv nd no other ,just like you to her ,right ,thats why you can easily expressed what you want to say or whats going on with you ,then why the hell i need or you to talk to me ,you trusted her more than i. then fine
To my knowledge no she's not. Watch season two episodes 8 9 and 10 when they were on the campaign trail in one of the flashbacks with big jerry.season 2.
Nadine Trass I think fitz said that the name of the woman that jerry was cheating on his mom with was hope.this is strange because the name rhymes with pope. Boy they really got some explaining to do in season 4.
I love this scene. Of all the people around him, only Olivia cared enough to check on him & make sure he was okay. I love how he just fell into her arms & started crying. She is the only one who he could be open with & truly let go. He just lost his father & as much as they had their ups & downs, I'm sure it still hurts.
