What strikes me as strange in these discussions is how the problem is always Ukraine, but never Russia. It's Zelensky who doesn't want to budge. It's Kyiv that doesn't want peace talks. But, dear geopolitical experts, Ukraine has never been the problem. All along it was Russia. Imagine that! It's Russia that comes to these negotiations and says - okay, give up Kyiv and Zelensky and let us occupy the whole of Ukraine - then maybe we'll talk. That's the problem, not Kyiv. Ukraine is fighting for its survival against an enemy that will never - at least, until Putin is alive - give up its maximalist goals. Robert says - none of them will be able to maintain the same level of fighting. Putin doesn't care. He'll turn the economy into wartime mode, he'll mobilize even more people, he'll continue pushing to the last soldier. All the West had to do was to take this war seriously and provide serious weapons from day 1. Not begrudgingly provide a small part of what Ukraine has been asking for, delivering it months later and then saying - oh, the counteroffensive is not so great. Of course it's not so great - Ukraine has to beg for the weapons it actually needs. And a lot of it is still not there!
One fundamental problem is the belief that Putin might use nuclear weapons. That belief is a problem because Putin… can’t use nukes and stay in power. I’m not even talking about a nuclear apocalypse or Moscow being blown up or anything like that. Polls in Russia, which show broad support of (or at least tolerance for) the war and for Putin… also show that a very strong majority of Russias say nukes shouldn’t be used in Ukraine. Couple this with the fact that India and China have called for the war to end. And China has specifically said nukes shouldn’t be used in Ukraine. Putin’s political position domestically AND internationally would unravel if he used a nuclear weapon… I don’t think a lot of people appreciate this.
I would love to agree 100% with what you said, but you don't go far enough... we should give ukraine the means and permission to strike military targets in russia! that's another thing nato would do to cut supplies, but expects ukraine to do without... and any western country criticizing ukrainian tactics should put their money where their mouth is and send a brigade of their own to "show 'em how it's dun"
Garbage 😅 Ukraine has lost 350 hundred thousands troops and it's country bombed to dust and these people happily discussing that Ukraine is winning and Counteroffensive is pretty nice going😅
@CUACHA_KILLA NATO, EU is a very trustworthy party for Russia. Dont believe me? Please ask the Russian elite, Olicharchs, and elite government officials in Russia. There is no 'deal' for Putin, anybody who thinks he is going to give up one square inch of Ukraine unless he is absolutely forced to is naive in the extreme
That presumes any negotiation would require the withdrawal from territory taken, the same territory that wanted to separate from Kyiv. So, a deal is possible, but like any leader, he's got requirements.
@stephenglover8828 Well...the US has many a manic Russianphobe in its govt, and they've a mission to destroy Russia as we know it. Sad fact is most have taken no effort to look seriously at the causes of this war, they've just decided their sides on God's side.

Peace is simple. NATO out of Ukraine and stop expanding east. Liars and deceiptful neocons. Broke their word in 1992. The West and NATO cannot and should NEVER be trusted.
I suspect ukrainians would continue fight with whatever sticks and old rifles they have... biggest problem would be (from western pov of course) loans and money they owe and cant pay back while doing so. They have food, other supplies, so question is how long and bloody it gonna be. Ukrainians look to be as resourceful and stubborn as afghanis to protect their country.
Nice to see the Times finally admit the obvious fact that Ukraine has lost the war and will have to give up territory. Russia will never let Ukraine have NATO missiles minutes from Moscow nor should it. The US would never let Russian missiles in Mexico and Russia won’t do the same in Ukraine.
Mfer, is Russia becoming unstable your biggest worry? Or a country being invaded in the middle of Europe standing it's ground and regaining ALL of its territories? Jesus, this guy is terrible.

@@blechtic well put, because your position is of a certain view it's hard to know if that's exactly true but, I get the gist of what you're trying to say
Absolutely. The Russian regime still won't even admit that there is a war in Ukraine. Pretty hard to sign a peace deal to end a war the other party insists is not happening.
Columns of Russian tanks were headed straight for Kyiv in the first few days of this war - until Ukrainians stopped them. There was also Hostomel airport....have you forgotten already? Actions speak much louder than words.
Agree, this war can go on for 10 years easily but it seems very clear that Ukraine will never and won't have to give up. This is geopolitics. Russia and Ukraine are quite irrelevant. This war is about China. Also interesting developments in BRICS, seems half of the members don't quite want to be there any longer. The tide is slowly changing, another 5 years should do it. Ukraine will get stronger, Russia weaker as time goes on
Got that right. Russia will not abide by any agreement. They will smile and shake hands, bide their time to reload, retrain and restock their military with secret help from China for the next war. They will only understand overwhelming Nato force to keep them within their borders.

Frankly, anything short of regime change in Russia makes any "peace" meaningless. I can see outsiders insisting on an ambiguous outcome for Crimea to preserve Russian pride (e.g. complete demilitarization of Crimea - including an end to Russia's fleet in Sevastopol and the future of Crimea left to some sort of referendum in 20 years' time...), but that's just foolishness smacking of Munich.

I am saddened by the depth of pacificism and lack of belief that Ukraine would not refuse any loss of land. Only a cutting off of western support would cause Ukraine to blink. The cutting off of this support would send a message to Taiwan, Philippines, and the many small Asian countries is that you will not be supported beyond what hurts. Fox's views about peace talks in the war is sooooo wrong. Zelinsky already said repeatedly what they want to achieve in this war, and he is absolutely correct. All the countries he named that have tried for peace are ones that r aligned with Russia. Zelinsky even said that they will continue without the help from others. It will b hard and not sure if it would work...BUT they want their country back in full, including Crimea. He is just wrong on so many points. The media needs to stop indulging this nonsense that the West will decide for Ukraine what they should do. It's not our decision...it's the Ukrainian people who decide when to end this war. They have already proven how courageous and strong they r, bc they know that if they don't save their democracy now...Putin will try again in the future.
You are correct and wrong at the same time. You say it’s not the West decision and you are correct. However, without the West’s support they would crumble under a month. So, with that being said the West has a lot of say in what happens.
And without NATO troops on the ground, Zelensky has no way to get those lands back. Certainly not Crimea and the core regions of the Donbass but probably not a whole lot more from where they are now. The Russians have the manpower and resources to continue and now they have to since the annexed regions are Russian lands according to Russian law. They're now obligated to keep fighting to secure AT LEAST the annexed oblasts. But since the current intensity level is unsustainable, it'll probably turn into a somewhat frozen conflict like it was post-2014 while still technically continuing. There's way too much wishful thinking going around and determining policy. Be realistic.
Nope. No peace. No deals. Russia loses. Putin dies. Ukraine gets its land back. That is the ONLY way this war will end. NOBODY gets to decide otherwise.
