When it became clear Trump was gunning for a second term and was insisting on running yet again, Biden got scared for America and felt that he needed to run against Trump again, since he beat him last time. Biden wasn't trying to be selfish and get more glory, he was truly worried for our country and wanted to offer himself up for a second term as he felt that if he beat Trump once, he could do it again. This has all been about keeping Trump out of the White House. If Kamala can do it (and she can, and she will), then I think Biden will have fulfilled his mission regardless, for picking such a high quality VP and giving her his blessing to take his place.
