The 'Negotiation' word keeps popping up, which invariably suggests that Ukraine cede Crimea, and likely, several more oblasts. How about "You get out of our country, and we won't go into yours." oh, and "Return those who taken from Ukraine, specially the children" After that, one can negotiate Putin's replacement, and reparations to Ukraine.

We ae in Day 855. Two reasons -- the major reasons that Putin's 3-Day Special Military Operation failed, is that excpected the Ukrainians to roll over, and he had not Plan B. The Russians were completely unprepared to fight longer than 3 days or so. Those 200 paratroopers were tasked with taking the Goestmel Airport, and no consideration was given to the Ukrainian Artillery Division that was stationed there. Perhpas 12 of the 20 helicopters were blown out of the sky. Those 700 tanks on the Sikiva highway only had fuel for 3 days, food for 3 days. They were routed.

Mostly I think T.G. Ash is right on the money. If anything he is being polite in his analysis of western (London Frankfurt, to an extent, New York) role in disguising Russian financial strategies.

The free world has been far to slow ,everything needed by Ukraine should of been supplied years ago patriot systems,jets,tanks,drones what is the advantage of these being held collecting dust in some warehouse ? The UN voted, everything should of happened then when 143 nations voted for Russia to withdraw.

The problem with starting a war is that you have to actually fight the war and win or lose the war. Putin seems to have forgotten this basic fact. There is no cheat code. Russia can leave Ukraine AT ANY TIME and end the war. Those are the terms, they've always been the terms, those will be the terms unless Russia figures out how to win the war. At this point it looks nearly impossible for Russia to do that.

Russia has more in common with Asian countries than Europe. Hence they should become more integrated with Asia and forget Europe. Work with China on their belt and road initiative.

It all depends from what context you approach this question.. realism requires to take into consideration the thought of both sides.. so remarks like ... russia started so they should leave are fully unusable.. taken that into account than the 2nd question is what you want get from peace... my answer would be minimum losses of life.. but of course other approaches might be.. based on my context ukraine should have avoided this war by diplomatic means in the beginning.. that is keeping neutrality at this point in time.. no war would have been..but that is history now.. if we want to learn from history it means go back to neutrality now asap

I hope that at some point the tradeoff is immediate restoration of the pre-2014 borders *and* immediate (or at least fast) accession of Ukraine to the EU and NATO *and* serious reparations in exchange for dropping sanctions against Russia. And if we drag this long enough, to the point that the Black Sea fleet is completely obliterated, Kaliningrad is on the verge of collapse, and other Republics inside of the Russian Federation start revolting, maybe Putin or whoever replaces him will cave in just to keep the status quo as close to what it was as possible.
