I know a guy who was told "oh you're too old for studying new big things" (he's about 60) and he got mad, enrolled in a university to study Japanese and passed through it all. He had no knowledge of Japanese whatsoever before enrolling.
that's actually great thing about life. you can try everything and decide for yourself what is truly right for you. those who found early might not have tried what you have tried, so they wouldn't have the experience or knowledge you have. envy is for degenerates who feels sorry for themselves.
Well that is mostly for competitive physical activities... Sure you can start as late as you want, be as good as you can become, but if you're 50 you're not going to beat 25 year olds in a soccer game...
It amazes me just how relaxed everybody is with him. The young students and teachers just talk to him like a favourite Uncle and the Reporters and Teachers. What charisma he must have. What empathy he must have. We need 20 more like him as leaders around the world. Yet Obama acted like a scared little boy with him.
I'm in my 60s and I still don't know what i want to do with my life. I just pursued what interested me as it interested me and I wound up in a very OK place. Still learning too. I too envy those who decided early what they wanted to do with their lives.
ChengYee Sum, I agree completely. Yeah, I haven't worried about it in decades, but it does occur to me to wonder - if I was to be graduating from high school now, what would I want to do with my life? I can't think of anything other than how I've lived it so far, so I guess I'm content. :)

Hayden Terrell It's a special kid that does that, and the people at the KGB could see that. They surely had an eye on him or too afterwards. The question they asked themselves was, why he picked the KGB and the answer to that question must have been the right answer. It's probably an interesting life, but I hear some East German Stasi officers were unhappy over the isolation and having to hang with the same people on the weekends they worked with during the week at the office. I can imagine the KGB had some of the same policies. I wonder how many kids nowadays walk into a FSS field office and ask to join..
In some way Putin reminds me of the late American Actor Steve McQueen. A slight physical resemblance, but both have that quality to capture our attention in some undefinable way.
I'm on the fence about that. I'm just old enough to see the legendary Steve McQueen in movies before he passed. My two sigma/alpha male movie stars were both Mr McQueen and Clint Eastwood.

I would agree that in Russian culture Putin's advice to 'just do it' is very true. Unfortunately that is not the way things work in the US. In most US companies it does not matter how good of a worker you are, if you are not one of the 'inner circle' you will not go very far at all. Favoritism is rampant in the US workplace and many people work and perform faithfully for years and never really climb the ladder and don't have much to show for it while people in the clique goof off, sit around and talk all day and they get all the perks and privileges. In the US workplace what matters isn't how hard you work. What matters is who you know.
Same everywhere. I worked in a Canadian factory, and because of the syndicate which is meant to "protect" us, all workers are treated the same. No matter how hard you work, you'll get the same thing as anyone else. That's why in the end nobody works hard.

The trouble I'm facing is that, on going to YT, the clip I get has no captions, it's only Russian... I'm sure when I read it, it had captions, because I remember what Putin was saying - and, alas, I don't understand Russian... I wanted very much to reproduce the said post on my Facebook page - but my "friends" do not understand Russian either... Can you please give me some indication where can I find the said item with English captions?... Thanking you in advance...

The one thing Russians know that American does not is firstly to suffer astronomical human casualities in WWII (and from Stalin, et all at the hands of their own government) and religion/faith forcefully stripped from them. The USA had a population of 140+ million in 1941. Losing 20 million soldiers (men) would have never been tolerated by the American people. My point is Russia has survived serfdom under the Tsars, the Bolsheviks /purges, and the brutality and massive loss of life by not only the Red Army but by it's civilians (the stories of cannibalism in the battle for/seige of Stalingrad was hard to read even for me). Never underestimate the will of the Russian people. NEVER.
yay, I feel happy with my self, don't studdy, I have worked, but allways learning programming and electronics. I have 2 startups before, first one I was just to "green" to have it, second one was more serious, I fail becouse I was ilegal in other country (I could not have nothing) but I manage to make clients and some money to live, but then come the part I need to "grow" and ... fail... I never was driven by money or status, only by what I feel is correct. Today I'm again at point 0, no money, but happy with my self, we can be and do what ever we want at what ever age. Improve mind and soul I think is most important thing, learn at least a second language, you can travel without money (I received lot's of people at my home that do that, without knowing them, I only grow by doing that, since I become aware of other universes)... yha,,,, above all don't fear. Have fun ...

Marry someone and have a kid guys, don't afraid. I'm 21 been married for 2 years, have one cutest boy ever. Of course there is many struggle, especially when you're doomed poor. Don't wait for Juliet, whole story is bullshit.
