I won £800 on the National Lottery. I had to take my ticket to a recognised post office and fill out an anti money laundering declaration, provide full identity, provide employers details, provide a back account to which it would be paid into. Took half an hour. They then told me the maximum I could have in cash was £500 and the remainder had to be paid by cheque into a UK bank account. That's £800 on the lottery. The lense is clearly turned the wrong way around.
Very clearly. I never knew that, about the lottery. Good practice, but it obviously needs to be focused, as you say, back at the government and their bent cronies.
This is capitalism. It does not matter where the money flows from. Even from criminal hands. The system only favours those who have the most money. Without changing capitalism, nothing will change. If Russia goes, another rich group of mobs will replace them. There will always be scarecrows waiting to eat that money and do what ever it takes to get that money. Even destroying their own people (conservatives). Capitalism: Money is God Laws is their holy book Politicians are the priests and rabbis selling the capitalist religion to us. It’s another religion. Just sold to us from a different perspective. Unfortunately we buy it.
Didn't they drop the £50 note because it facilitated large untraceable cash transactions making them easier? and yet, have a few millions or even billions and there seems to be no limits or difficulty whatsoever. I believe the push for cashless is a plan to ensure that big government controls the plebes.
Yep. But it’s not just money laundering where things are backwards. The whole tax system is a joke where so long as you’re rich enough you pay as little if any tax as possible. The whole idea of earnings and income being two different things is ridiculous, money is money. Tax the rich and investigate the shit out of them for money laundering.
Remind me again how much Tony Blair is worth these days and how dodgy were his dossiers? It's more of a problem with little hats than with traditional Christian tories.
@@hanselmansell7555 Blair's multiculturalism and mass immigration is exactly responsible for the mess we are in now. He was and is utter scum that should be in prison for his crimes.
Entire buildings that are empty for decades, having their kitchens renewed every five years ... no one living there. We have been aware of this since Bojo was mayor, but nothing is done, they're all skimming off the top, the Tories being the prime skimmers.
@@martycrow Well yes, but if you have tower blocks empty there's a knock on effect. I have friends in London who live in zone 4, they used to live in zone 2. Using properties and game pieces in an enormous Monopoly game. Belgravia may not change much but the ripples stretch out as far as the M25.
@@martycrow perhaps not, but the knock on effect is that Londoners who have enough money to buy another London house frequently buy up entire streets in poor areas like Rotherham and become slum landlords... Its pretty common....
The same thing is happening in Hungary. Property prices have trippled in the last 8 years. Hungarian oligarchs and stooges are spending craploads of stolen money on real estate.
We knew that British gov was turning blind eye, of Russians disappearing, putin setting them up, poisoning …we warned them, they helped putin become a trillionaire, nothing can stop putin now…it will comeback to bite us all…

Having been born in Britain and tried to run an honest business there I can tell you that the only people who really flourish are those attached to the banking industry in some way. Britain is based on banking, it’s why we have so much poverty in the UK. On paper because of its banking system the UK looks rich, unfortunately for 98% of its residents it’s a different story. I doubt this will ever change.
Having worked in audits for financial services, you'd be amazed how many of these firms are propped up by one or two big deals with these oligarchs with the majority of their other product lines net losers overall. Uncover a dodgy deal with a Kazakhstan mining company, director gets pissed off and calls the partner at Big 4 who tells me it's not our focus. The ramifications of these sanctions on the city will be bigger than you think, wait and see.
Imagine for a moment the lives of those people, decent, hardworking people in enforcement agencies, forensic and investigative auditing, civil servants assessing information and coming up with policy options...all working year after year, knowing corruption is evil and they are helping to fight it.... Yet, year after year, their work gets put on the back burner, shelved or burnt. They grow tired. Watch the months pass by. Some move onto other jobs. Others rise through the ranks for saying less and smiling more. They grow cynical. In a few years, they can retire. And start that donkey sanctuary they always wanted to. Except that now, the donkeys are now in power and have no need for sanctuary. Certainly not from you. They have even stolen your dreams.
The oligarchy and kleptocracy net needs to be cast much further and wider. It's not only the Russians who are at it but other individuals from other nations. Love this concept for this video !
Sure, Oliver'll tell you, it's also Azerbaijani and Mexicans! They've obtained their billions illegally in Third World countries and that makes it "dirty money" - buying property in Belgravia is what magically cleanses it. Of course, when a respectable British businessman opens an offshore company *to do the exact same bloody thing* there's nothing suspicious about it. He's not "bringing in ill-gotten loot" from elsewhere, he's just swindling the British taxpayer which is completely fine. Insultingly jingoistic and shamelessly misleading, this video.
@@SockPuppet80 This video is directed at ill gotten Russian money in a very specific context - Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Other videos are available that call out British corruption and tax evasion, eg using British controlled territory for off shore banking and company registration. But you probably knew that and just wanted to express frustration. That's ok, I understand.
Tell us something we didn't already know! Johnson has the British media in his pocket so this will never come out properly! He's rotten to the core himself with dirty Russian money!
what can I do to make a difference? I feel so angry about the injustice to those whose money has been stolen but I don't know how to fight the injustice
In the US the big laundering has been drug money, but has diversified, and we too have huge issues with absentee shell company property holding. The rich have shared interests with Putin. They share responsibility for the suffering and death of countless people over decades. If only Putin goes down and loses his wealth, we will have missed the point.
Not sure they are Putins Oligarchs?? Even if they are - didn't stop the tories welcoming them with open arms - did it?! Tories are as complicit I'm afraid!
Excellent. Quick question. When did this start ? Who encouraged it and has it just snowballed in the last ten to fifteen years. I’ll bet something like this has been going on since the 1930s.
THANK YOU for this. Been wanting to do that bus tour from the moment I bought MoneyLand by Oliver Bullough. Then, Covid happened. Ah the joys of youtube!
The UK banks have all been required by Government to introduce 'anti money laundering' measures that seem to apply only to little people - e.g. a few hundred pounds given by parents or grandparents to help young people with a house or flat purchase. I was required to provide a wide array of documentary 'evidence' to demonstrate that money laundering was not the origin of small contributions. Not only was this greatly onerous for such a small amount, the information was was also collected by totally insecure means (contrary to the bank's own policies), leaving me open to identity theft in the process. Hassle the little people who pay their taxes, but turn a blind eye to illegally obtained millions or billions.
Crikey I never knew it was this extensive, thank you. When BJ had a meeting (drinks/dinner) with Russians and refused all of his security. And had No 10 redecorated in Gold wallpaper, that Truss had then 'repainted'?
During the pandemic I lost my business I lost my home. I can’t get any credit I’m living week to week. I’ve never felt more angry than I do right now. Revolution Revolution Revolution Revolution….. that what I’m gonna chant when we match to London.
Ok, so at least all of these steps seem like something that should be illegal. How can we allow people to open shell companies like this, or have an address where they are not actually located, or have banks move money for cartel's etc. I can only guess the people with the power to make or enforce these laws don't care, or are corrupt themselves
The government permitted "Discreet Law", to represent Wagner Oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin in a slapp suit against the founder of Bellingcat, Eliot Higgins, despite the fact Prigozhin was under sanctions. Worse the slapp suit was against Eliot Higgins personally over claims Prigozhin was linked to Wagner’s misdeeds.
I will donate to you very soon. Unless journalists and investigators like you are supported much of this scandal would be hidden and allowed to carry on.
Yeah, as soon the EU started talking about closing these loopholes, the brexit campaign started. It was really obvious if you were looking to it from the outside the UK.
@@remyborst7686 Exactly. And just look at the top players in Brexit, what kind of money they have and where they have business interests. It's as plain as day, just follow the money as they say.
Освободить оккупированную Путиным Россию. Держись Украина. Обанкротить российских олигархов. Вернуть украденные у русского народа триллионы рублей обратно русскому народу и восстановить Украину. Liberate Putin-occupied Russia. Stand strong Ukraine. Bankrupt the Russian oligarchs. Return the trillions of rubles stolen from the Russian people back to the Russian people and rebuild Ukraine.
Wanted to say that I live in Coventry and seen the billboards from LBD, these must have been put up a couple of years ago now. Now you have the moment to completely obliterate some of these conservative contenders to be next PM. Personal political leaning is centre right but it's perhaps no longer true as I voted for LDs in the last 2 GEs. The lesser evil in the candidates seem to be Sunak, although being Chancellor and PM are two different things.
