I appreciate the fact that the russian people are unable to do anything to change their governmental leadership. If they could, they would certainly find far more capable and effective people than what they have in office currently. This would make russia far more adaptive and flexible therefore successful. A retired senior diplomat who once served on the Security Committee OUGHT to have more military insight than the man in the street. Rickets is clueless and also wrong about the various long term support papers re Ukraine. These are just papers and bundle up reconstruction and military aid with NO guarantee that action will ever follow what was written. Nor did Zelenskyy have a successful time at the G7, if one analyses the body language. Many of the elite will have seen him for the last time, despite the vacuous Swiss talks which really have no meaning and could damage Switzerland's good name, simply because of blatant bias by the Swiss president. No meaningful progress can be made without Russia, Belarus, China and better than 3rd rank reps from various states. Zelenskyy might get another gourmet feed but every spoonful counts as another few deaths in Ukraine by horrible means. Perhaps he should be obliged to reveal real casualty stats and how many died for lack of medevac logistics. Technically, Zelenskyy is no longer president because the Rep of Ukraine constitution was breached too many times by him. Read the text and note 'failsafe' procedures. Perhaps he will not risk returning to Kiev and will scuttle away to one of his Caribbean mansions. Rickets is also wrong about the Russian momentum slowing down. Because Kiev sent so many men and weapons to so many fronts quickly Russia had to deal with some but not all of them. E.g., because so many AFU small units are in Kharkiv oblast and pose no threat to the full securing of the Donbas border, the main advance (in a north/south line of mechanized brigades) continues towards Dnipro city and there are marines with amphibious armour as well as the usual small tanks and large artillery in a position to move swiftly towards the widest part of the Dnieper river from Enerhodar etc without necessarily having to involve Zaporozhzhia city. In addition, medium bombers are stepping up bridge demolition by the southern routes from Poland, while the work is nearing completion in the north. This will only leave river transport as the artery for US weapons to reach combat areas and sinking a few barges will destroy the weapons as well as clogging up the various narrows either side of Dnipro and west to Kamianske. Why waste expensive missiles when FABs can hit barges and quays dropped from beyond AFU air defence range? On the matter of 'frozen assets', Swiss banks said months ago that they will process sequestered monies and be party to theft or misdirection. Numerous financial law experts worldwide have expressed doubts about the legality of the proposals and the consequences for the banking industry, which is based on trust.
