Hi Glad you enjoyed it. I have been enjoying your machines as well We are both very fortunate to have a copy of this record Took me 20 years to find it. Very uncommon
Damn, you beat me to it, I just made a boat load of videos of some of my records to up load, and this was going to be one of them. I`ve had it for about 40 years, and was going to put it on utube, but I found yours so I figured there was`nt any sense in having two of them on the site. yours sounds better anyway because of your floor model Orthophonic. Love it. Thanks for posting. :)
Great to kniow enthusiasts are keeping these landmarks in recorded sound available for us to enjoy. A wonderful reminder of another time - with amazing quality too!
Don't Forget Adrian Rollini who is also on this and featured in a duet with Miley! Check out "What Is This Thing Called Love" . Another one with Miley ANd Rollini featured together. The Credenza is a great machine, I have one too,It's too bad this video doesn't capture the great sound of this wonderful machine.
Never heard this version before. This song was remade in 1982 by Taco, and I still have Taco's version on a 45 and it sounded a lot more modern than this one, because of the Synthesizer.
@genia106 Genia, it is always a pleasure to hear from you, thank you I appreciate that, half my favorite videos are of yours. :) Please stop by again real soon
I picked up the same record at my local record store for a single dollar. Funny how things can be so different when buying records depending on where you search.
@Turkeydoodlers This is great. Thanks. Check your platter RPM. It sounds a bit fast. I have a Walnut Orthophonic VE 8-30 that will blow you out of the room.
There are 2 sets of lyrics for this song, and I always wondered which came first. I now see (from this, and other RU-vid postings) that the words about Harlem were the originals. Gradually they were replaced by the ones about actual rich people on Park Avenue, so if you hear someone performing this today, you'll hear: "Have you seen the well-to-do? / Up & down Park Avenue / On that famous thoroughfare / With their noses in the air..."
Yes i agree 100% I finally found this a few weeks ago on ebay. I paid 27.00 for this one. The lady i got it from had a box of new old stock, these were still in the shipping Victor boxes, so this is basically a new record. you never see this one forsale, i looked a long time, and i have been collecting for 16 years, and never seen a copy, and to get one like this i was willing to pay the 27.00 for it gladly.
Are you sure it´s from 1930? I can see the label says ´´Victor Talking Machine co.``, and I thought Victor was sold in 1929, and after that the ortophonic label Changed those words to RCA Victor.
Strictly showy Berlin: fun, but not really a great tune. I wouldn't put a $27.00 record on a Victor Orthophonic even once for 'the gang' ... Use the damn 3 gram needle instead of the 1000lb.per sq. inch, or whatever 'reproducer'... The web or net, whatever, is setting a bad example for all those young'uns out there. It won't hurt, really, to play them on a Victrola a few times, but change the needle every play, kiddies.
