Took a vocal lesson with Tom about 6m ago....very down to earth dude and a great teacher! i Absolutely love this album so thankyou for go over this song!
I had the fortune of meeting Tom (My idol) In grand rapids on a tuesday night small show this year. SUPER laid back very friendly and gives a shit that you came out to see them. What a gem
@@danieldavidson5447 yeah, tom's vocals are just as good live too. i saw CG almost one year ago and it was the best time of my life, i bet my mom would say different though lmao
Love this analysis. Tom Barber is a monster. I really like what you said about vocal cadence sounding like a nursery rhyme sometimes in metal. I really like Alex Terrible because he is great at switching up tempo and tone to avoid that.
I saw one of the new band shirts for this album for sale and decided to check out the album after not paying too much attention to the band for a number of years and...let's just say that I bought the shirt immediately after hearing the album. 😂

Everything I’ve ever heard out of Tom Barber’s mouth has made me stank face. ☹️ Dude is a legend, and I’m glad to see him back on the channel! Speaking of guys you need to have back on the channel, Justin from Tallah has dropped new one take videos! You have GOT to check out “Shaken (Not Stirred)”
Yes he's definitely ahead of the game. Both Darko and Chelsea Grin absolutely jam. What are the odds 🤔 right! Tons of ppl would give a nut to have a band that's mediocre. Also top notch 👌 video as usual. Appreciate you man!
Love the content man! I hope one day to see you react to some newer JFAC, anything off the Sun Eater album really. Jonny Davy is one of my favorite vocalists of all time, and he only got more twisted and demonic in his delivery as the band got better and better too. I know some people dislike his way of enunciation, but I always found it so fitting for the heaviness of the music. He did a live performance with Suicide Silence for Destruction of a Statue that was a pretty good demonstration of where he's at vocally these days, but Sun Eater has so many good tracks that demonstrate his range. Hopefully we get a new album from them soon. I know one was teased a little while back.
That concert was a decade ago, don’t get me wrong, Jonny killed Destruction of a Statue, I was there at the concert. I just wish JFAC would get back together, if they don’t make any new music I’d be fine with that, I just want to see them play live again.
Mark when you said “how their voice can be placed and built differently” I said “built different” out loud right before said it at 19:24 😂 made me laugh, thanks for making my day man. Keep up the good work with these videos 🤘🏼
I can't get enough Tom Barber content. Chelsea Grin is fine and good, but his vocals on Darko US... is just... on another level, and I've become a shameless fanboy. It's literally just stuck in my brain for weeks now. I have a chronic case of stankface as a result of listening to Darko nonstop. Send help
This was my favorite on the first lp. Look forward to the second. I saw CG this summer. They were amazing and Tom was super cool. Left with a photo and signed setlist.
@Rob Full man totally!! I like that all the songs try to do their own thing. And it sounds very different from darko. But Tom is obviously way better vocally than when there's previous singles came out.
Such a sick song and album. Deathcore is definitely getting a bit "same-y"... but that's just what happens when a handful of bands within a genre have so much more success than the rest, right? Everyone wants to be like those bands. Right now, deathcore bands either want to be like Lorna Shore, Chelsea Grin, Shadow of Intent, Brand of Sacrifice or Darko... which just makes those being imitated stand out even more, to me at least.
This is definitely my most favorite album as of rn . Tom is an absolute beast. I lost my love of deathcore for a while but Tom brought it back for me hate that they aren’t touring in the us al next year
Such a good guy on vocals. If you have time, take a look at Stained In Rot by Ov Sulfur, such a crazy good song, and that end breakdown had me doing stank face. Ricky has some good vocals, and if he’s available- maybe get him to break down his vocals.
Yo, I fux wit ur channel fr fr. Tom Barber is responsible for my renewed love and interest back into heavy shit and doing heavy vox again. Dude is M E A N ! ! ! ✊🏿😤🤘🏿😝✊🏿😤 much luv y'all.
Otep - My Confession, this song is amazing and Otep Shamaya did an amazing job composing and throwing her vocal talents at it. It's an old, old song but I feel like it really deserves a reaction.
To touch on something you said at the end, I think art is completely subjective but that doesn’t mean there can’t be any objectivity within that space. It’s almost like math: the core axioms are arbitrary, but the conclusions of those first principles are not. Some people listen to music just because it’s catchy background noise, some people like technicality, some like atmosphere, emotion, etc. So you can say “this music is good/bad”, if you clarify the angle that your approaching from. Usually we just express this with the word “preference” which implies our own subjective tastes without explicitly stating them, but it would also be fair to say, “I think black metal is better than death metal because I like atmosphere” or “black metal is bad because I like production quality.”
I believe tom is super talented no doubt about but for some reason Tom’s tones for the longest time now have just don’t done it for me. Don’t know what it is but regardless of it being darko or Chelsea grin, just something hasn’t clicked with his voice and my ears. Still super versatile and talented vocalist no doubt
This song slaps I still hope you will one day react to the raven autarchy thirty blood moons would be awesome specially learning how to get those lows either way awesome vid keep it up my guy
Please, do a vocal analysis to: Beyond Deviation - White Noise or 10,000 (hopefully a co-reaction w/ Gui) In Gloom - God the Animal ft. Kyle Anderson Our Common Collapse - Brought Beneath Monasteries - Digital Suicide Littledidweknow - I am Robot Machine
Could we ever see an interview with Scott lewis from carnifex? I do believe entirely his vocals are quite unique and I think you would agree if u listen to the their song “slit wrist saviour -graveside edition” would love to see it on the channel!!
So re: the Tom Barber Signature Low™, he talked about it in this music mentors online thing a few years ago. Iirc he said something to the effect of start off making like, the Fat Albert "Hey hey!" sort of noise(safely, of course) and then layer the distortion over that.
Band reccomendation: Kanonenfieber its a single guy from germany, who works a normal 40h job, but did this as a projekt with an historian friend, to represent ww1 letters in his songs
isnt this, lorna shore, and all the other that pop up, just made after infant annihilator? soudns exactly the same to me, specially lorna shore. dont get the hype
