Current holder of three world records (including the absolute altitude record and tandem balloon drop altitude record), Judy has also successfully completed a long list of daredevil stunts including hang gliding across the English Channel after being released from a hot air balloon 12,000 feet up, and flying off the edge of Cotopaxi, which at nearly 20,000 feet, is one of the world's highest live volcanoes.
Judy was awarded the MBE in 1989 for services to hang gliding. She has received other awards including the Royal Aeroclub gold medal, Sportswoman of the year awards from Cosmopolitan magazine and from Middlesex County. She also received the Hussein Medal for Excellence for her flight to Jordan by microlight, and was presented with the Jordanian Star of the First Order by King Hussein after her world record balloon drop.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
